July 22. Yep good watch.Greengrass got the tone of the film just right.Nothing but the story of the attacks how it all happened and Norways reaction to it.No more no less.
I thought the young lad recovering from his injuries was a really good performance.

Has anyone here started with The Haunting of Hill House? I only hear good stuff about it.

Plan on starting it soon as I've heard good things.

Just watched the first episode of the new season of Daredevil. Pretty decent.

Past week I've watched (or re-watched) a bunch thanks to Prime Video having some good free uploads.

Exorcist III: Legion (1990)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Blood on Satan's Claw (1971)
Trilogy of Terror (1975)

Got paid to watch Halloween today. Disappointing unfortunately. Visually itís quite nice, able to capture the feeling of the late 70s despite being set in modern day. Carpenters soundtrack is great too. Storyline is awful. Way too many plot devices and bland characters other than JLC set it up for being just as a interchangeable with any of the other various sequels. Beats working but would of felt even more down if Iíd of paid money to see it.

Rewatching The Lost Boys and Dark City. Jack Bauer is a very versatile guy.

it's a shame the Matrix ripped Dark City off and got all the glory just because it has higher quality VFX

I also always LOL @ the goof Tarantino made about Lost Boys...

Itís very good. It should be watched for episode 6 alone. Most tense/creepiest funeral Iíve ever seen!

I will say the final episode/ending had me a little disappointed. Especially since the original haunting ended in such a beautiful downer. Iím a huge fan of the 1963 movie so maybe Iím just overprotective of the material...

Seriously tho the episode in the funeral home is amazing!

I agree with this. Watched original Flatliners this week and Keeferís acting is superb. Saxophonist agrees!

Do you really think it was more popular just because of that?

well, the VFX made the fight choreography (the only other thing that was remotely better about the film) possible and believable. In pretty much anything else that is - for example - an award category (such as acting, writing, direciton, cinematography, audio mixing.etc) it's inferior.

I mean, what else did it have going for it? Sex appeal of Carrie Ann Moss in leather vs Jennifer Connely in a classic dress? Acting chops of Theodore Ted Logan?

In all seriousness, I actually like the Matrix other than 2 things (maybe 3), : the shitty soundtrack, the adoration/praise given when it ripped off the idea/story that Dark City told better, and the plot hole(s). It's fun, it captured the zeitgeist. It influenced a lot of other films. It's a shame they never made a sequel, it had promise and I'm sure the box office public would have eaten it up. People like popcorn not pensive. Much like music (black, death , underground metal) the thing that sells the most copies doesn't inherently possess the best qualities .... c'est la vie

Never heard of Dark City, but seems like the perfect 'it is Sunday and I am hungover as shit so I'm gonna watch a movie and try to alleviate the headache by drinking the remaining 4-5 cans in the fridge while I wait for the delivery boy to bring me Thai food' kind of movie. Seeing as I am currently in exactly that state, here goes!

Exactly. Dark City is a good movie but it doesn't really have much mainstream appeal. And that kind of ideas had already been around for ages in books, comics, etc. It's not the idea itself what made Matrix a more successful film, but the execution. I mean, if we're gonna go down that road, you could say Dark City is pretty much a 90s retread of Blade Runner with some Johnny Mnemonic thrown in (and even some Jacob's Ladder if you will, specially if you buy into Goyer's "explanation").
I just think they're two very different films that have some thematic similarities, and if anything, it would be more of an influence than a ripoff, because the Wachowskis were obviously trying to do something very different than Proyas did with Dark City.

Wachowskis did basically a salad of Ghost in the Shell and Dark City. Both are far superior movies, of course.

Watch it, the director's cut.

Btw, Luciferion used bits of that movie on The Apostate's first half.
