Hi! I'm visiting Darkness Guides Us fest on november in Glasgow, but before that I'll spend a few days in Edinburgh. Any cool shit to do/check out while there? Or should I just realize my lifelong dream of heading to the moors in a kilt to play bagpipes while fucked up on Caol Ila?

Just gonna point out that Evil Blood is now based in Scotland, you might luck out and they'll be playing a gig.

In Glasgow there is the Necropolis to explore, which is right near the Cathedral. You will find a landscape covered with monumental graves from the Victorian era, which is beautiful and fascinating to explore. There are other museums there, but I have yet to explore those.

Glasgow Cathedral, Necropolis, Robert Graham whisky shop at 111 West George Street, Mono always had a nice selection of music, there's a secondhand shop with loads of old cassettes on Chisholm Street near Trongate but can't remember it's name, Dram was a nice pub and the west end has some nice sights like the Botanics and the Hunterian museum. See the castle, national museum, walter scott monument in Edinburgh and Bannermans or Banshee Labyrinth were always decent pubs. Probably alots changed but that's a few.

If your wandering around Glasgow city centre you will more than likely see George Square. At one corner of it is Queen St station and at the left side entrance there's a steep set of stairs with a great little music shop at the top.Used to be called Avalanche Records but changed it to Love Music.(don't like the new name).
It was always well stocked with new and second hand product.
You can use Queen Street to travel through to Edinburgh also.

Couple of okay record shops down the bottom of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, can recommend the Royal College of Surgeons Museum for gore fans (highlight for me was half a WWI soldier's face in a jar including his 'tache, loads of cool old anatomy dissections too). Castle, Holyrood Palace, great views from Calton Hill and St Giles Cathedral all worth a look - the war memorial in the Castle is properly epic (a whole church all to itself).
Been to Edinburgh many times but Glasgow only the once and didn't see much of it.

In addition to what's mentioned, Solid Rock pub right next to Glasgow Central is probably the go-to for Metal environment. It's within 5 minute walk of Classic Grand (Where the fest is being held), Ivory Blacks and Audio so does get busy pre-gig.

There's also a 2nd hand record/cd shop called 'Missing' directly opposite the south exit of Glasgow Central under the bridge. CD selection is so-so, LP selection is pretty poor, though. Most of it charity shop shite.

You guys are going to positively impoverish me on this outing. By the way, are any of you coming to this event? I'm traveling alone this time so I could use a suitably unhinged wingman to wreak havoc.

I will be there as the festival is local for me. There will be a group of us drinking in the Crystal Palace upstairs (it's a pub right next to the venue that offers cheap booze), most likely from opening time on the Saturday.

If you want to join our group let me know, it's sure to be a wild weekend! If you are from Finland you will fit right in with the Scottish guys for sure!

Consider it done! I'll be in contact once the festival creeps nearer!
