Only a small label but northern Sky used to say how shitty Emit and TOMB and other similar bands were despite stocking their stuff.

As far as Aquarius goes, there are some people that are reliable and some people that are not (on the side there are links for recommendations by staff members). Andee (owner of tUMULt) knows his metal, I do agree, Pyha is the crap to top all crap, but think about all of the fantastic stuff he has released:

Weakling - Dead as Dreams (my favorite album of all time)
Smorzando - Smrad (falls into the buzzing/burzumic, but actually amazing)
Diamatregon - Blasphemy for Satan
Diamatregon - Crossroad
Professor - Academizer E.P. (killer lo-fi death/grind, pretty much the only death grind I can listen to)
Hammers of Misfortune - The Bastard

some great non-metal too:
Skullflower - Exquisite Fucking Boredom
Brainbombs - Stigma of the Reaper

Keep in mind, Aquarius is the oldest independent record store in San Francisco, and based on the purveying hipster trend, it's impossible that that influence wouldn't bleed into such an establishment. Also, Aquarius is not a metal record shop, they just happen to carry some fucking fantastic and some times rare metal there.
The reviews themselves may be a little uncreative (yes, buzzing and burzumic are used in every single black metal review), but they get 20-50 new releases a week, and they review every single one. Can you name another record store that does the same?

All that aside, I wholeheartedly agree that it is fucking annoying as shit when they go out of stock and don't list it as out of stock...

Andee is cool. agreed.

The actually don't review everything. I know this for a fact. the last four things i brought in for consignment weren't reviewed. they're so utterly backed up, it's insane. they try . . .

"Shitty" can be a selling point in the deepest depths of some underground corners...
Wasn't it the case there?

What is that label up to now? I've wanted to order a load of tapes for some time now but their distro list isn't even full...

aquarius is a better store for non-metal and i trust their recommendations more when it comes to experimetnal music etc. i think its actually a good store, but i do grow tired of the descriptions at times. i think the problem is that they feel compelled to write descriptions for everything they have in the store. its a bit of overkill in my opinion. ive been suckered by some of their descriptions at times.

still i go there regularly and often find good scores. a while back i found the nocturnal art version of anno domini cd for $6.

Can't be bothered to look it up but it seemed they were just saying it's not worth getting.

Not that it is of any importance but that EP was released by a German label years ago if memory serves me right. Quite funny with titles like Into The Auditorium or Numerus Clausus.
