Absolutely overrated. They have one good album, their debut. The rest is boring and they suck live as well.

Little off-topic: I really like this forum! It's international, there's no bitching around, people know what they talk about and I already discovered a lot of hidden gems. Plus I can improve my english skills... Wink

Yeah I don't know what in the hell happened to Vomitory, but the latest two albums did nothing for me I prefer the earlier releases.

The Full Treatment is a grotesquely underrated album.

Agreed. I'd pick Holy Terror over any 80's speed metal anyday. I'd add to the list of underrated stuff Armoured Angel, Deranged, Sanctuary, Savatage (never getting enough praise imo) and Hallows Eve. As for Entombed's Clandestine, I think it doesn't suit the category, I even think it's a bit overrated in fact. For a similar guitar tone, better structures and a darker atmosphere I always go for Soulside Journey.

Impetigo? Underrated as hell. I agree. One of the best bands ever to emerge from the planet. As for Vomitory, their latter albums may be dull and boring, but they never wimped out and that surely deserves recognition.

Overrated - 99% of the bands riding this wave of occult/retro BS.

The glut of uninspired "doom" bands who seemingly only ever listened to Sleep, Eyehategod, and Electric Wizard. How many bands singing about satan and bongs do we really need?

Underrated :

Cirith Ungol: While hailed in the underground, this is one cult band that truly deserved a much larger audience.

Slough Feg - no explanation needed. These guys should be filling arenas.

The Gates of Slumber: Very few bands could rival the quality and consistency of this band's entire catalogue.

Vomitor - The most exciting black metal band out there, for my money.

High on Fire - I know many any in these forums are probably too true to admit to liking anything by these guys, but they always seemed to be standard bearers for real metal in 2000's and beyond. Their first two albums in particular are great. I'm surprised I don't see more people in these forums haling their second LP "Surrounded by Thieves" more, it's the perfect amalgam of Iommi, Motorhead, Venom, early Slayer, and Celtic Frost.

Count me in. From the 4th album on I don't care for them, but they surely had released 3 first albums which are total ballsy riff-fests.

Also have to say that Pagan Altar may be the most underrated band on the planet. Their albums are just as vital as classic Sabbath, Priest, or Zeppelin.

It's a bit of a trap in the underground realm as someone will say Vomitory is overrated when they had an attendance of 25 people per show if they were lucky last US tour.

I think Manilla Road is horribly underrated and I doubt many people outside of DM/BM collector circles know who the fuck they are.

Underrated in the uberground is tricky territory, I'd say Sloth from Ohio are underrated, Devo before they were on Warner Bros? how the fuck can you precisely say?

Of course stoner faggot occult turd monger shit, the hipsters they've modeled to the bone in KFC and car insurance commercials will always be fooled first, as for UG, I dunno, I like em but I think --x--band__ (edited cause I don't feel like dealing with this bullshit) has succeeded on a bit of hype, they sound like a lot of South American war metal $5 CDs distros can't get rid of, but there's been a collective deciding they'll carry the torch for the style despite plenty of lesser regarded albums that sound exactly the same. SO my advice is to never listen to what anyone thinks, they're all fucking assholes in the end, if you haven't heard of something, then it might possibly be underrated

Yes! I haven't played any other metal record since I got Mythical & Magical last year. Fantastic band.

Wouldn't say they're underrated. Pretty much every doom and USPM nerd heaps praise on them. They're good, but I definitely don't like them as much as most people seem to.

I think Pagan Altar are utter boredom, and I consider myself a fan of old traditional doom metal. Good catchy tunes but nothing outstanding on them imo. Maybe something hasn't clicked on me yet, but I guess it never will.
