You need to get a Tascam 302, the best tapedeck there is.

However they are really expensive (new about $600), so you should look for a used one. Bought mine for about $80.

That is quite the financial upgrade. Not yet. I'm really interested in Nakamichi's products as well. Pricey as balls though.

That Tascam is one hell of a tape deck though. Shocked

I needed a good tapedeck for recording tapes. Came across this for a fair price, so I bought it.

Oh wow, I just noticed the DAT prefix on that deck. That's really cool.

Easily the best deck I've had over the years. With all the technical mambo-jambo you need for perfect recording/dubbing. A Technics classic!

Anyone have any experience with a Nakamichi LX-3 or Pioneer CT-F1250? Either appears to be around 250-300 used (CAD). I'm tempted to go for one of these rather than wait for a Technics to show up somewhere local.

I have a Nakamichi CR-1. It's a less expensive Nakamichi deck. I really enjoy it and would love to hear one of the more expensive ones. There's a Nakamichi CR-1 on Ebay for $50 right now.

Is that Tascam 302 deck compatible with audio cassette, because isn't DAT different in dimensions?

I just recently got a Nakamichi DR-2, Apart from the DR-1 its THE best tape player ever made.

Usually goes for between $2000-$4000 in mint condition.

I got mine at a steal for $550 in its original box - mint.

Expensive yes, but the quality is better than my denon cd rack and probably just as good, if not better than my turntable. so many hidden layers in my demos revealed haha. totally worth it. will never need to buy another tape deck again.

INCREDIBLE fidelity! Support!

ill dig up a pic soon.

To my mind, the best quality / price ratios are represented by these decks :

- Onkyo TA 2900 or 2090 - the green lights are beautiful ;
- Nak LX 3 - a tank and it sounds so fine when you read tapes duplicated on this machine ;
- Alpine AL 80 - unique vu-meters - tough to find in the US (see pictures at : http://www.thevintageknob.org/THEVAULT1/AL80/AL80.html)
- A very good Pioneer but way underrated : CTA7
- The best you could get below $150 : Tandberg TCD 440 A : as good as a reel to reel

i have a nakamichi rx-202 . it plays great, but i have been having problems recording from vinyl, with the sound coming in and going out. this however may have something to do with the input/output on my amp. don't want to change it out, beautiful deck.

Try to post your problem at Audiokarma.
But pure electronic problems are barely easy to solve ...
