Tech question for those who may know.

The plant doing my next releases tapes told me they prefer a digital rip of the music into two files (sideA.wav and sideB.wav for example). My CD ripping program can rip in wav, but is there a way to merge the tracks, or rip a CD in this fashion?

Free software would be preferred if needed, because unfortunately i can't afford any sort of hardware to hook up to a program like audacity to record the album from a CD player.

yes, there is a free program called Exact Audio Copy that can rip CDs bit accurately to a what is called an image file, which is a single .wav file containing all the tracks and an accompanying .cue sheet with all the track time and position information.

Here is a wiki explaining the software. You will find helpful guides to properly setting it up on this page as well.

Another option is DBpoweramp, but this software is not free and would require more steps to complete the same task your asking.

I use http://www.freerip.com/ for ripping.

You could merge them with http://www.goldwave.com/ (or even rip and merge? dunno).

I am happy with both programs and use them many years now.
