I had completely forgotten about this band. I remember when I first heard Wait and Pray...total Slayer clone. _________________ Der Rest ist Schweigen. |

You mean DESPISE - 'state of brutality' no doubt!!! It sounds EXACTLY as you said.
I remember going to the local record store asking if the new Slayer is released ('Seasons in the Abyss' at that time) and they told me "No, but we have the second best option", and recommended this demo, haha. They were totally right! This is great stuff.

Is it just me who thinks that there's a lot of Slayer in RIGOR MORTIS? |

I don't think any band ever cloned Slayer successfully. In the 80's, most bands tried to set them self apart from other ones, so I think bands mostly tried to capture a general (popular) sound or went the way of one-upmanship (something that lacks in this day and age's scene queen circle jerking) rather than rip-off one particular band..for the most part. Unlike the shameful play-it-safe cunts of today who insult great bands with their "I can do that too!" mentality.
The closest counterpart to Slayer I can think of is Possessed. You'd be a moron to not see Possessed were heavily influenced by Slayer, but they sure as fuck gave them a run for their money.
Which is the better album between Hell Awaits and Seven Churches is debatable (I personally see no reason to want to choice between either), but Slayer ultimate ruled supreme because they made Reign in Blood while Possessed went on to Beyond the Gates. |
