armour - Love crime sounds EXACTLY like WASP - Bad. they covered wasp as well so its not like it was unintentional. i dont know how someone can live with themselves stealing a riff so close and using it on a release. fuckin doughheads. there is worshiping a bands style... then playing the exact same riff! The opening riff to Black Witchery's Invincible Antichrist Victory sounds quite similar to the main riff in Obituary's Back to One |

theres a later era bad religion album where the first 2 songs use exactly the same riff with exactly the same notes. _________________ format your doormat |

this is actually the most interesting bit. I can be playing this smashing little number and think I just made it up only to at some point realize where I heard it before. and if this happens regularly then just think how often it goes unnoticed. we all bombard ourselves daily with so many riffs that it's a miracle we sometimes think up some that did not come to us from the outside. and even then what comes out of our "own" experimentation still draws on the experience of all the riffs we've heard.
it's already in the name if you want. to "riff on" something is not creating from scratch, but the variation of an idea. most of what we hear as "original" songs is probably the recombination of riffs the artist has at some point heard, and then maybe with slight variation. of course musical experssion ist much more than the single riff. it has to be tied into a song, together with other instruments, vocals, timing - all of which can make obscure that the riff is not an "original". it's a huge incest story but we don't notice it often (fritzl). _________________

I guess none has ever noticed this lengthy-riff steal from :
Uli John Roth's band (Electric Sun) from a 1979 track (instrumental) :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Yghj_PloGI
put it to play at 4:11 of this track
and then listen
Therion - Symphony of the dead (from Beyond Sanctorum)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTonwsIdVP0
put it to play at 4:59 of the track
And there is no credit at all in Therion's album mentioning Mr. Uli John Roth.
It is the whole part that Therion have stolen it and just played it a little bit faster.
Enjoy! |
