I'm not going to bother reading all the pages in this thread, but I want to recommend that Lovecraft fans should also read T.E.D. Klein & Laird Barron, who are both keeping his style of Horror alive while also making it their own.
Klein has only ever written one novel, one novella, & one collection. I highly recommend the latter, "Dark Gods". It contains the story "Nadelman's God" which was the basis for the "The Hungerer" by CRYPTICUS:

Laid Barron is like a mix of Hemingway & Lovecraft. His characters are largely tough guys, criminals, investigators, & military men who eventually come face-to-face with unspeakable horrors. He doesn't rely on any of Lovecraft's creations, but has assembled a vague pantheon of primordial horrors that are all his own. He has two collections. They are both amazing, but you should start with this one:

What I have read of Klein was great - the story "A Black man with a horn" was very dark. Shame "Dark Gods" is out of print.
