But this can be said just about anything including the so called Metal lifestyle. The 'second wave of black metal' especially the Norwegian scene had the same crap. You weren't allowed to laugh or smile in the "inner circle". Examples are endless with Death Metal being considered trendy or this and that band not being Satanic enough, etc. etc. etc.
Only those who want to be or more precisely feel the need to be a part of some sort of a scene or gang have to put up with some kind of rules and live a certain way. You can still believe in something your own way without following or agreeing with anyone else. Sounds/looks like you went from one extreme to the next.
