There's no thread about my country so far, so here we go...
Of course, no one living here would deny that after the glorious days of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost and Samael/Alastis, there was a huge abyss during the early/mid 90ies (same goes for Death Metal, but that's another story). You had the terrible two albums of Forsth released by Last Episode, some boring DM bands that flirted with satanic imagery like Amon, Azrael or Azag-Thoth plus some obscure (but good!) bands like Mordor and Nergal, but besides this: Nothing.
It needed time until the late 90ies/early 00ies that listenable stuff came out. Here are some of my personal favourites:
Paysage d'Hiver:
While the widely respected Darkspace are not my cup of tea, I think PdH made a really unique blend of burzumish BM, the ulitmate soundtrack to winterly landscapes and deeply influenced by beautiful Swiss Alpine scenery. Very recommended, but most here will know them already. My favourite is the self-titled demo.
Eisenwinter:
Hate or love it, most people into NSBM for some time know what I mean. The early keyboard dominated works are great like the newer stuff, nice melodies and catchy riffs. Also, the German lyrics are among the better ones you can find. Best album so far is "Verkommen, Entartet, Verreckt" as it is good produced and features the best drum-job so far.
Tarihan:
Only one album so far from this weird project, but "Hohe Tannen" (2003) is a must if you can bring up some tolerance for...well....just listen to it: Every song is different from the others, it's really hard to describe. Geeky backwood stuff, full of folklore & classical reminiscences and recorded in analog glory with all charming flaws.

| Hey I have the Alastis "The just Law" on lp and it's very good black metal. Sounds i little bit like Samael but a lot doomier and with a more obscure approach. Highly recommended. Along with the three first Samael, but that goes without saying. |

| Yupp, early Alastis was great indeed, the "little brothers" of Samael, in the truest sense of the word. It's a shame that they became shit soon and followed the "Dark Metal" trend until they split up while no one really cared about them anymore. |

| yes, except few very good bands already mentioned, I think Swiss death scene is more interesting than this. |

Then I must haved missed something.
There was Sickening Gore (formerly Reactor), but I never liked them. And besides that, only the typical generic brutal Death/Grind crap was around, at least from what I remember, unless something has changed profoundly in the underground since 2002. |

Well, good friends of mine and they made a huge progress musically, but when it comes to the concept it's a bit too much of a "Flickenteppich" for me.
And I say this by judging the more or less whole discography I own of them.

Paysage d'Hiver is amazing. Ma favourite demos are Steineiche, Die Festung & Winterkälte.
Other bands I like : Nordlicht, Darkspace, Helslakt, Profond Barathre, Sun of the Blind. _________________ Sale list (Burzum, DTL, Sunn O))), Darkthrone, Abruptum, Windir, Hellfest, Shining, Fissur, ...) : http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=710004#710004

Saw them live twice (accidentally) and they sucked both times. Some people really seem to like their records, though.
Try out Moonfrost, Leere and Freitod. Those might fit your taste. |

I hope to live to see the day when the Paysage recordings see repressings onto vinyl (or in some cases, first pressings). _________________ Quote:

I forgot WALD (ca. 1995/96):
I don't find anything in the internet, so track down at own risk. But they had their moments, believe it or not! |
