This band has been mostly in the shadow of Reverend Bizarre/Spiritus Mortis, but they are just as good as those two legendary finnish bands. Especially "Womb of the Earth" is a great album.
Dolorian
This band doesn't get a lot of recognition. They aren't the easiest band to get into, but imo they are fantastic. Especially the first two albums are superb. Very interesting take on a otherwise fairly traditional genre. |
100% agreed on both of these. Dolorian is easily the strangest, yet one of the most captivating, doom bands I can think of. I'll add that, as far as active bands go, Profetus should be getting a bit more recognition than they have so far. _________________ www.contagionreleasing.com |

Well, it's not war metal at all. Give it another try, it's more like Vassafor or Void Meditation Cult. Great vocals, too! _________________ KEEP FALLING APART |

UNCTORIS from Italy. They're pretty original, savage, and chaotic. And apparently immune to current trends. And there's something of Mortuary Drape's nature in their music, but it's something barely noticeable in this extremely rough and chaotic sound of their. I'm surprised to see that they're rather obscure even in Italy. _________________ A good hippie is a dead hippie |

More importantly it's far from generic. The first demo is pretty "meh" but after that their material is developing nicely. The 2nd demo and the split 10"s are fucking great. _________________

| I think UNEARTHLY TRANCE fits here as well. Their debut is damn good. More black/doom metal but with the same kind of atmosphere that the almighty WINTER conjures. However my favorite UT album is "In The Red". That is clearly a transitional album, moving their discography into a slightly newer direction. Fans are mostly divided up between those who worship the debut album and those who prefer everything that came after it. I like all of their albums though, but I still need to hear the last one. |

Not sure how many folks have mentioned it already, but VASSAFOR is one of the best bands going in today's underground. _________________
