|
|
Couldn't find a thread about this with the search function...so, apologies if there already is one covering this.
What are some bands that released their best album late in their career? Are there any ? Usually most bands blow their load on their first 3 releases or so.... are there any exceptions to this rule ? Im sure there are a few, but I can't think of any right now. _________________

True ! Don't give even a half a shit about their early catalog, but The Voice of Steel is amazing ! _________________

Armagedda definitely.
I would also say Arghoslent, although I love everything they have done Hornets is my favorite by quite a bit.
+1 on Gorguts
Manilla Road in the sense that their pinnacle wasn't until Crystal Logic.
Edit: Svartsyn definitely needs to be included. Swans as well, although similar situation with Arghoslent. _________________ Wants/Trades: http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=275935#275935

Primordial "The Gathering Wilderness" and "To the Nameless Dead" are a good example _________________ But I noticed nothing dangled between his legs. He was a female down there- and from his vagina came a tongue followed by many fingers. NUCLEAR DEATH - Cathedral of Sleep |

Agree about Arghoslent and Primordial for sure. Haven't heard the new Revenge, but it seems everyone thinks it's their best so I guess that's a good candidate. Not sure if I agree about Manilla Road... since Crystal Logic was only their 4th album (if we include Mark of the Beast as far as when it was recorded).... and they've released 17 until now. Not exactly 'late' in their career. _________________

Solstafir and Negura Bunget for sure.
About Primordial, I think it largely depends on personal taste. Journey's End, Spirit the Earth Aflame and The Gathering Wilderness are the same good imo, I personally prefer TGW but I can understand why someone would consider JE as their best album _________________ Sic transit gloria mundi |

Definitely. IVth Crusade and For Victory are both great. Warmaster very close. Then they blew it by even later in their career churning out the hard rock. _________________ DEATH METAL UNDERGROUND |

For Victory is definitely my favorite... but I can't see how that album or the one before it can be considered "late in their career"..... they still put out albums for another decade. Those albums are firmly in the middle of their discography. _________________

I wouldn't commit to "best" on any of these, but here are some exceptional late-career albums.
Sabbat - Karmagmassacre
Motorhead - Bastards (probably more like a mid-career album)
Saxon - Unleash the Beast
WASP - Dominator
Zeke - Death Alley
Hellacopters - Head Off
Bathory - Nordland I & II
and Dehumanizer might end up being my favorite Black Sabbath album. _________________ https://professorblack.bandcamp.com |

Agreed on Inquisition.... all their full lengths are outstanding, but I think Ominous was their best work yet. If any band can keep a great streak going, it's them. _________________
