OK, just tried playing this for my three-year-old nephew. He calmly explained that the horns (or whatever) in the intro “wasn’t an elephant,” and then halfway through the second track he asked me to turn it off. Laughing

I agree. You have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it, thus appreciate it, and thus know what you would want to listen to as you make the music. Part of this is because rock music is either lifestyle-based or political (or both, which is probably more political choice as lifestyle in the way of the OWS hipster).

I think that's an important observation...

There is the saying "Black Metal is more than music" and yes indeed, it is true. Without the proper state of mind, you can not "tap" into the "core" of this music (or rather, what does lay behind, and is merely expressed via, the music), whatever that may be...

Black metal has always struck me as a continuation of European Romanticism past its brief flirtation with Enlightenment ideologies. It's a gut instinct, like all conservative philosophies, more than an "ideology" in the modern sense of an externalized belief system. But that gut instinct is a primal rejection of egalitarianism, false civilization, and all other things that tie the natural human soul to the ego-drama of other people, who are more afraid of being "out of place" than they are concerned with what is right.

I don't think you can have "Red Anarchist Black Metal" any more than you can have "Collect All the Beany Babies" black metal. It's a contradiction between the essence of black metal and an aesthetic of the normal and corrupt.

Yes, but you can't have any (Black) Metal either when deep down you keep thinking: "This is N*igger music!". I don't think his attitude has changed in this regard; he's not one to take back any words said/opinions expressed no matter how wrong or foolish that might have turned out to be.

I think he's got a basic problem with Metal-related music and that's why he pays no attention to what he's doing musicwise; if he wasn't attached to the guitar because he just can't play any other instrument (properly, that is), then he would most likely dust off that casio keyboard and use that for Burzum once again...

That's true. I think the historical record shows that his opinions develop over time, rather than change. That's how it is with many smart people. They figure out the basics, then spend decades interpreting that.

I wish people would drop the idea that (a) metal is rock music or (b) that rock music is rock music; it's warmed-over Celtic folk using the German-style (waltz) drum kit and technique. Pentatonic scales and melodies existed in the west long before African slavery...

That would be truly great if he did. The recent Lord Wind and forthcoming Winglord show how much interest there is in this type of music. Even Danzig got profitable with his keyboard albums. And Dead Can Dance is touring again. Fodder for thought, if Vikernes ever considers this.

Corpsepaint, spikes, bullet belts, viking outfits, ripped jeans, inverted crosses, war helmets.......this is a Metal forum that you're posting on. I myself dress very casual everyday but most of these musicians have some sort of an outfit. If one is a clown that makes all of them clowns.

So he'd better stop writing music but keep writing books instead, if books became so much more important than audio records. That's fine with me, because I will most likely cease to listen to any new Burzum recordings now that he has disappointed me so thoroughly. Smile

Lets see, is there a message (like how he sees himself?) behind all this post-jail albums ?
From Baldr to Fallen and now Metamorphoses & dissapearing -free- into the Night (if cover is related somehow)

With the proper mindset & time to understand & dwell into it this album is godly, could it be his last output?

No, it won't. Around November you will have another re-recorded compilation, this time of "Hvis Lyset" and "Filosofem"-songs. He admitted so much in one interview recently.

instead of debating their music (just agree they've both made 2nd wave classics), who'd win in a fight?

my vote goes to Varg cause he's actually killed somebody

He got caught for the crime. Just because you were never caught doesn't mean you didn't do it. Besides; fighting and killing are two different things. Considering that this "fight" would be in a different environment in a different time and under different circumstances I will wager my money on Mr. Fudali. Looking at the pics on Burzum's site I can see that Varg just doesn't have it in him. Looks like life in general is finally catching up to him. He looks much older than he actually is. If I had no idea who he was I would say that he's a man in or close to his 50's.

that's also an older Graveland picture, so his speed/attack points have probably dropped some

The most epic Battle of Black Metal! Cool

Someone please come up with some photoshopped pictures...! Razz

However, I couldn't tell who's gonna win... Darken fights with sword whereas Varg uses the spear, so the latter got all the advantage unless Darken manages to do close combat. Hmm... let's have a Black Metal RPG someday. Wink
