| I've used one. I think it's better than cleaning by hand, but I also think it's better to just save the money for a vacuum machine. |

I've been giving that some serious thought - one of the vacuum machines _________________ Good Deals: Antichrist, Wolfram, The Unborn, Rolex, darkdescentrecords |

| I use the entry level Nitty Gritty, and I like it quite a bit. It doesn't eliminate all noise, but I find it usually does a good job. You do have to turn the record by hand though. I'm guessing a higher-model, automated Nitty Gritty, or a VPI, would be even better. I know some posters use those and can chime in. |

If you already have a good hand cleaning routine, I don't think the Spin Clean is much of an improvement. After the first few records you're just dragging the next LPs through a solution that's already full of grime. Vacuum is where it's at, for little more than the cost of the Spin Clean you can buy a KAB EV-1 (it's the basic Nitty Gritty machine, but you supply the vacuum, standard canister vac). A VPI, Okki Nokki type of machine is a hell of a lot more convenient though.
edit:
The VPI 16.5 is one of the best audio investments I've ever made. Worth every penny and then some. Shame the price keeps rising though, it recently got bumped again. |

| I have a spin clean and I like it. i think it's overpriced for what it is, but it works. I got a Amazon gift card for Christmas and this is what i bought. It's amazing seeing how dirty the water gets after cleaning just a few LPs. |

Don't know if I'll ever have the self discipline to save up for a mid range to top of the line vacuum system (and my wife would beat the shit out of me) , and there are some records that I just can't seem to get clean with the normal solution/cloth/brush routine. I feel like if I press any harder I'm going to ruin them or something.... i
I've read some pretty good reviews of this system, like the one here :
http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0110/spin_clean_record_cleaner.htm
Thanks for the input. |

Yeah, definitely a bit pricey, considering the simple components.... but cheaper than other systems. I guess the secret is really in their proprietary solution that forces the debris to sink to the bottom so it doesn't get transferred to the next LP. |

that's a very simple and straightforward system ! I wish there was more information on the final result, though. The reviewer simply walks you through the steps, but doesn't compare/contrast the results with other systems. I'd be real interested in reading about an LP cleaned with this system, then put in a Spin-Clean to see if any debris can still be found at the bottom of the Spin-Clean..... Also, with this much water pressure from this system, I'd be worried about small particles inside the tap water damaging the grooves and the "lands" of the vinyl, no ? |

Better review of that Hydraulic kit,
http://www.stereophile.com/content/review-gem-dandy-record-cleaning-kit-1
with feed back in the comments worrying about particulates and 'hard water' from the tap like I mentioned. I guess GEM recommends using a filter if you have hard water.. Well, I have a Pur filter attached to the cap to get as much poisons out of my water as possible, but I don't see how any of the supplied attachments (or after market) would work with my filter..... Seems to do a great job, but also more expensive at $150 and time consuming than the Spin-Clean system. |

There are some good videos on youtube of people using the spin-clean. They play the record before and after and there is a big difference in sound. I know a couple of people who have it and I do recommend it if you have lots of records to clean. There's a guy here in my city who has the 'vacuum' and he charges $3 per LP to be cleaned. A bit expensive if you ask me. _________________

| I take good care of my records, but some old second hand ones need some special attention. Some new records are dirty once in a while, too. Recent examples being Christian Mistress' new LP. It came straight from relapse , but the vinyl was covered in stains and had lots of surface noise and pops. Regular cleaning method is still leaving much to be desired. My Thin Lizzy ” Live at the Tower Theater” is also like this. |

Buy VPI
Charge people to clean their records
Profit
Seems foolproof, just do that
$3 does seem expensive, if he's using a standard RCM. No if he's got a Loricraft or a Keith Monks or something that might be reasonable. Is the price of new poly inners included with that? Better be. |
