Agreed! Looked at their discography and was a bit taken aback so just bunged their name into youtube and the first sample wasn't all that great. Mid tempo, typical black metal. Didn't really do anything. Unlike the Temple Nightside EP. Holy shit it's good.

Well, the 2006-2009 compilation has nearly all tracks recorded on those years, but it's a bit rare. Maybe pick up the "Jaded Evolution of Druided Fiends" tape, or the split with Krüel Kömmando 7''.

I guess I should have specified the releases in particular:

ATRA - Death Coven. That LP is so eerie sounding. The second album was not as powerful IMO.
ILL OMEN - Everything. The lo-fi 4-track demos have ominous interludes that I really feel, and the debut LP reminds me of the more primitive side of NIGHTBRINGER. Really into this band as of late.
TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE - Excellent EP. The riffing is great!

Raw is the law.

Eternum's newest full-length is essential if you like Temple of Fullmoon stuff.

It seems that way currently. But they were on Head Not Found? Must be at least relatively good then. Will add to listening list.

yep, on good ol' HNF...nothing earth-shattering; just nice creepy bm w/ a bird doing vox, but i'm fond of alot of female-fronted groups, metal and otherwise...

Temple Nightside, Ill Omen, and Atra are all great recommendations. I realized in an earlier post I made about Spire I included a link to the wrong band. Here is the real one:

Atra's demos and Up-turning the curse ep are also fantastic. The ep's title track is eerie.

And yeah, second album didn't blow me away as much as Death Coven, still good though.

Agreed, everything Ill Omen has released has been amazing. Wraith of a thousand suns might be a bit impossible to find now though.

Where would someone recommend I start with Forbidden Citadel of Spirits? Their discography is kind of overwhelming.

I've come across torrents for the splits with Mons Veneris, Satanize, Gandr as well as Jaded Evolutions ep and Occult fingers of spell ep.

Zinarthan productions still has copies of the Occult fingers 7" ep.

If you can track down the 06-09 compilation (I got mine from the guitarist last year, he sent me #17/100 so he might have some more copies laying around) then thats worth getting. The tracks from the splits with DTL, Gandr, Vetala, Kruel Kommando, Kazaviel and Satanize are great.

Also the tracks from the still unreleased split with Enecare and the 4 way split with Wampyrs Dungeon, Vetala and Enecare are on the compilation. Fantastic material.

Aussie black metal sucks

Pretty much zero riff/song based bands and a lot of hard talking/weak sounding material. It all sounds the same and everyone keeps talking about satan and depression.

Nonetheless, check out Gol:
http://myspace.com/appaller

also Netherkin (have since disbanded)
http://myspace.com/netherkin

Also second recommendations for Spire, Astriaal and Carbon.

Beneath the Dying Moon.

Did some stuff in the early 90s and then disappeared. Very cool/catchy stuff.

Another killer Aussie Black Metal band is emerging soon by the name of Consummation. Heard the demo the other day which is fucking great! Should be out before to long via Abysmal Sounds.

One of the best bands back in the day (well still better then 90% of stuff today!), and it's such a shame their album never came out! The mid-later songs of the set are my favorite ones.

Also one of the first REAL BM live shows i ever went too, with blood and weapons (that spiked club being swung around the front row almost took my eye out a few times haha), definitely a better atmosphere back then.

I'm pretty sure I was at this show. I thought the battle axe etc.. were cheesy haha
