Waaaaay too many to mention. Favorite lead guitarist overall is Adrian Smith for me. Plenty of amazing solos from Trey, Mark Shelton, Iommi, Tiptom/Downing..... Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham, Temis Osmond ,Blackmore, Quorthon etc etc etc. Impossible to make an exhaustive list

Gotta agree with the Smith! Never been much fan of Murray's solos.

See I always preferred Murray and often Gers over Smith.... they're all really good but to me Murray is king!!

I've got absolutely nothing against Dave Murray (don't know how I forgot to list him) ... he is fucking amazing as well. I just like Smith's style a bit more, it has more attitude to my ears (for lack of a better word). Murray is fucking phenomenal in his own right, but his solos tend to be a lightning quick flurry of trills , while Smith's seem to have more thought put into them, as well as fantastic chops.
Plus, you can't argue with this guitar face :

Gers ???? Shocked Confused The 'fuck are you smoking, man !? Laughing He is sloppy (without feeling) as hell, and he absolutely butchers Smith's solos when they let him play them these days... I don't know why they do that, it drives me fucking nuts. Adrian is right there on stage, let him play the solo while Gers gyrates around like 9 year old with a hula hoop and embarrasses himself. The only solo's of Gers that I can think of that I really love are his leads in "From Here to Eternity" (only good part of that abortion of a song), and "Fear of The Dark".

My favorite solo all all time is beginning at 3:12 in Judas Priest "Beyond the Realms of Death." While it may not be technically the best ever it fits the song perfectly and is loaded with feeling.

ofc/vulpecula/ares kingdom -- really hard to rank chuck keller's leads but i think he is the best soloist in extreme metal hands down

Agreed 100%. No one rips a shredding metal solo like Professor Keller. It would be futile to try to pick one over many others. No other musician I've ever seen is nearly as impressive to watch, let alone hear, live.

Gotta agree with you on that one. I never liked that guys leads. The new DVD is actually pretty good because he barely gets the opportunity to solo and not very much camera time. That triple guitar attack seems a little overboard to me...

Exodus "Strike of the beast"
*even better live from the "Ultimate Revenge/Studio 54 show"

Deicide "Sacrificial suicide"
*all the guitar work actually. Nothing special in a virtuoso way, just evil chaos.

Yeah, really no need for 3 guitars. I guess it makes the music under a solo a little heavier, though.
I've learned to accept Gers over years because when you think about it, he's been in the band for 23 years and if he's good enough for the rest of the band who am I to judge? Seems like a nice enough dude on all the dvds/documentaries, too.
En Vivo is great, fantastic camera work and stage production.

I hear you man, I know I am the minority on this one - but I like his playing, I like his stage presence - I agree they should let Adrian play his solos since he's rejoined but I like what Gers adds to the bad. I'm really into the new albums, and he's written or co worritten a lot of tracks I really dig on those (The Talisman, Out Of The Silent Planet, The Legacy especially).... Very Happy
