Of the bands I recall from the teen years, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Motley Crue ... had no clue about 'black metal'
No internet, no exposure.
Wasn't until getting my drivers license and frequenting the city that I actually began to expand into, the underground ...if some compilation disc from CM black imprint could be called that. Emperor, and Mayhem... but alas, already was almost 20 at that point I think... or close enough to not be 'teen' years anyways.
Shit, didn't get the internet at any rate of 'high' speed until I was 24ish or something like that. |

I had a huge punk phase in my teenage years. I've always loved it but from 14-18 it was damn near all I listened to. I even let many favorite metal bands fall by the wayside for awhile. Anyway even back then I had way too many favorites to ever pick 10. Even 10 bands is impossible! This is the best I can do, haha.
Born Against - 9 Patriotic Hymns
7 Seconds - The Crew
Dillinger Four - Songs of the Midwestern Americas
Bad Brains - s/t
Morbid Angel - Blessed
Emperor - ITNE
Slayer - Reign in Blood
His Hero Is Gone - 15 Counts
Metallica - Ride the Lightning through Justice
V/A - This is Boston Not L.A.
And shit, when I look back at this list, it doesn't even come close to representing all the mindblowing shit I got into and fell in love with. I'd have to add like 200 HC/punk/pop punk/metal/whatever else records to even begin to describe it. Great thread.

I could steal at least one or two albums from EVERY list posted so far and add it to mine. |
