Deicide better than Morbid Angel? Really? I don't think anobody can say that with a straight face, even counting Illvd. You can't really compare the first Deicide (which is the best by far) with Altars or even Covenant. And I also find it kinda funny to see so much rejection towards Cannibal Corpse. It's true they've been releasing boring mediocre albums for a very long time (just like Deicide), but their first 3 (specially Eaten Back To Life) are very good albums.
On topic, I made pretty much my whole way into Metal in my teenage years. At 13 I was still listening to Pantera and just getting into Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Sabbath, by the time I was 17 I was already into Carcass, Pungent Stench, Macabre, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Venom, etc. so it'd be pretty hard to just name 10 albums. For those who were teens in the 80s or even mid 90s is probably easier, but for guys like me who arrived when everything was already done is tougher because we got exposed to tons of different bands from different subgenres, pretty much all at once. |

I know what you mean here. I just picked some albums I remember enjoying when I was 16 which actually isn't that long ago for me. I'm 22 now and I've only been heavily into music for 6 or 7 years at most. There's a ton of oldschool stuff from the past I've never listened to and new music coming out all the time (not all of it may be worth checking out but there's still a ton to sift through to find the gems) _________________

This is an easy one. There's waaayy more good old stuff (like pre 95) than there is new stuff
I'm going backwards, filling holes in my collection, getting records that I've lost or traded/sold and that mean something to me. I'd much rather get a Mint copy of Testimony of the Ancients that some new Repugnant record. |

Those are not on my CD.
The only good track is (again) Slayer/ATR - No Remorse. |
The Goldie/Henry Rollins collaboration is pretty good too. A nice piece of dark and disturbing D'n'B. _________________ MEMENTO MORI

I didn't say that Deicide are better than Morbid Angel, I just said that me personally ranks them higher, depending on the various circumstances of my teenage years which would burst this thread if I had to explain them in detail. But it surely has nothing to do with "Illud", as the last MA I bought was "Formulas" when it came out.
As for Cannibal Corpse: Yes, they made "good" albums. But sometimes just "good" is not good enough for me. I even had "Eaten Back to Life" on CD for years, but almost never listened to it. |

Glad to see this one mentioned, I think this was also the first AC/DC record I had. Never saw the movie, though.
Back in the days before internet etc., such best-of's/compilations were a great introduction, also Venom - In Memorium and MF/KD - A Dangerous Meeting come to my mind. |
