The robberies have been going on for years at MDF from what a few people told me. I think next year my friends and I will definitely spend a couple bucks for the quick cab ride back to the hotel in the future. Of course, you can robbed that way as well, but at least I would think the cabbies around there are well versed in speeding through red lights at the first sign of trouble...

I get annoyed by stupid ironic grind fans (haha penis balloons and glowsticks har harhar) at deathfest, but I give a lot of props to chicken guy. He's been doing that for since I can remember and he rocks out for every single band. Maybe he's not the most true metal warrior in the world, but the guy is dedicated.

Eyehategod ruled, very violent.

Agalloch played only old shit. [Dead Winter Days, As Embers Dressed the Sky, Hallways of Enchanted Ebony, I am the Wooden Doors, Of Stone Wind and Pillar, You Were But A Ghost in My Arms (first time they ever played it live), The Lodge (Dismantled)]

Autopsy took 50 minutes to start and then played to the limits of intensity and time.

Negura Bunget was way better then I expected. The flutes and drumming on wood boards actually all worked and sounded great.

Setherial was better then I expected.

Demigod were a ton of bricks, but I think I would of enjoyed them more inside.

Godflesh were incredibly powerful. Wish I had been less drunk and remembered what was going on better.

Napalm Death, Nasum...I couldn't tell one song from the next at that point.

Looking For An Answer has a dumb name. I wanted to hold up placards that read "D) All of the Above".

Dragged Into Sunlight sounded great and had a cool show, but the aura was lost on me when the guitarist turned around and I could see his Cephalic Carnage t-shirt. Just didn't make sense. For the beginning of the set, between the darkness, fog, and strobe lights I could not see the drummer and it really seemed like some phantom was behind the set.

The best part of the Black Witchery was when the skin head got his ass beat by a bunch of latin dudes.

Hellbastard were hilarious and ripping and tearing with the lead guitars. Paul, the vocalist, was breathing fire and having people in the crowd breath fire. He dedicated one song to being against bullying and cats "MEEEEOW"

October 31 would of been better if was Deceased.

Morbid Saint was awesome for a bunch of dads. Every song on Spectrum of Death

The Devil's Blood really took me by storm. Saw them a week before and thought it was good but not great. At deathfest they were truly possessed. It was like having three Uli Jon Roths on stage going ape shit all at the same time. Seamless flow of music through the entire set. Ironic that a rock band ruled me the hardest at a metal fest.

Anvil, so bad.

Archgoat were cool. Really dig his voice.

Horna bored me, but I'll see them again when they come to town in a couple of days.

Brujeria were hilarious. They closed the set with a parody of the Macarena.

Tsjuder played a great set and then ended it with Deathcrush which made me infinitely happy. "Our good friend [suchandsuch] recently died. His funeral was yesterday. SEE YOU IN HEELLLLL DEATHCRUSH!!!!!"

Winter was a barren emotionless pit of doom. I mean that in the most flattering way.

Disma sounded like their record. I mean that in the most flattering way.

Cough seemed like it would of been a good time but it was so cramped and hot.

Ulcerate's drummer blew my mind.

Chruch of Misery is one over hyped band.

Pentagram were one of the highlights of the fest. Great band. Would of loved to have seen them in their demo days.

Yob, only caught the last few songs. It was RIDICULOUSLY packed for them. They played the title track off Atma last which has that great chugging riff through the whole song. Hopefully they do a real tour again soon.

Saint Vitus blew my expectations apart. Phenomenal sound. I was right up front and lost my shit when they played Windowpane since that will always be my favorite Vitus song.

ELECTRIC WIZARD was an event on its own. I actually enjoyed being among so many people because everyone was super into the music and it turned into this weird sexual cult gyration fest with the rain and everything. Must be the kind of thing people go to Phish concerts for. Every song was huge, but I would of appreciated more old songs, even though I really enjoy the last album.

Sargeist had the best sound inside for full on blast beat black metal band. That's the most I can say for them.

Bethlehem, can't tell if it was them or me, but I didn't not enjoy that set. One of the bands I was most into seeing that day, but we didn't connect. The songs I like so much on record sounded so disjointed and stupid in the room.

MORTUARY DRAPE! Perfect band to close the fest. So unique.

so much to do around Baltimore every year.. .. I went to the Pinball museum / arcade, inner harbor for tapas / sangrias every day, awesome beer bar called the Brewers Art for 3.50 belgian style beers happy hour prices.. Edgar Allan Poe's house and grave... strip clubs.. aquarium, The lexington market for amazing crab cakes... whatever.. Lots of stuff to fit on when you're not festing. So funny how all these metal heads are afraid of a city and leaving the fest because fear of crime.. you just have to have a little street sense.

as far as Poe's house.. when I went there was a cop stationed right on the corner.. Baltimore police is definitely trying to step it up... obviously there is only so much you can do.

its an expensive hotel, but this year and last year i stayed at the HI Express across the street from Sonar and just split the room with however many people were staying each year. its walking distance, easily doable by yourself because of all the other people out all day/night, and cops are already around the area alot. plus i kept my own food/drink stock there and probably bought less than 5 beers at the Sonar all weekend. sneaking in cans is the way, and if you have a cup just pour it in. i'm not paying $5 for a Yeungling when i have a case across the street. Cool

I have (audio only) bootlegs of Archgoat and Mortuary Drape. The quality for Archgoat isn't very good, but it's worth checking out if only for the novelty of hearing Heavenly Vulva tracks live! The Mortuary Drape recording is a lot better, but it's still not amazing.

Both are of the entire sets. There's no audio omitted from start to finish. I tampered with the EQ on the Archgoat recording to try and make it more listenable. The Mortuary Drape recording has not been altered at all.
