Fan? Being a fan doesn't suck, it's okay to be a fan of a band. Being a collector is what sucks. How many fans of these 2 bands are out there? I like some Nunslaughter and have a few of their releases myself but I wouldn't say that I'm a fan. And because I am not a fan of the band I don't collect their releases.
I'm a huge fan of Iron Maiden, Sodom and Motorhead. I don't pay high prices for their "collectibles" but I will buy multiple/different pressings of their releases. When it comes to Maiden I mostly buy stuff from the '80s and early '90s. Just an example that I gave. I don't push myself to have "the biggest" collection in the world. And I know it is a bad example because when it comes to Maiden and Motorhead most Metalheads, young and old, are able to say "Hey this is Maiden" or "This is Motorhead" when they hear a random song by one of these bands. When it comes to Maiden you can play any random song from their 1980's discography and I will tell you the title of the song, what album it is on, what year it was released and most likely I will know 70% of the lyrics. But how many of the so called Sabbat or Nunslaughter "fans" would be able to say the same thing if a random song of one of the bands was played at a party or a bar? Don't get me wrong, there ARE fans of these bands that actually like the music and know almost every song by heart. But the majority of the people simply are nothing more than collectors.
I myself am no longer a dedicated "fan" of any of the newer bands no matter how much I like them so I am guilty as well. For example, I got Acid Witch "Stoned" album and it gets played quite a bit. I actually like it so much I got the CD, black wax, colored wax, picture disk, test pressing and a shirt!!! If you play a random song from the album I will be able to tell that it is Acid Witch. But I don't even know one song title from the album. I never even read the song titles or the lyrics. Didn't have the time to look at the booklet / layout so I don't know if there are lyrics printed. So I am guilty of having a collection without having any knowledge about the band or band members. |
Good point.
But also remember that most bands to day are not nearly as memorable as the classics. The bands and albums sound alot more alike, and the songs don't really have their own character, so it's alot harder to "remember" most new stuff. |

Only a puny 2 EP's by Sabbat, though. If anyone wondered, I have my collection typed into an Excel sheet, so I didn't have to count physically |
I have 87 eps, 9 lps and 2 boxes. And I also have that in an Excel sheet!
But I want more ep's...
DSS has a point, but I don't agree with everything he writes. I REALLY enjoy NunSlaughter otherwise I wouldn't lose so many time searching for their stuff; and money, actually buying their stuff. If I'm not drunk, I recognise NunSlaughter right away. I know some of their songs sound alike, but NS have a very distinctive sound. At least, to my hears...
When I started listening to NS, I only bought a single copy. All I wanted was to hear different songs from them. But, during last year, I decided to buy the original versions of some eps (since I got all the HHB reissues). It was this simple deed that got me into collecting more stuff, including different colours and picture discs. And I'm enjoying this. If that makes me an "anal retentive bastard", a "motherfucking kvlt asshole" or a simple retard, I couldn't care less.
PS: I just received the Silver LP version of "Hex" right now! _________________ Ides sofrer como cães!

For some reason I have several EP's of this band bought around 2004-5. If they are worth anything, I'll sell'em easy.
Will post pic and info later today. _________________
