I think they really nailed their change of style with 'The Cult is Alive' - an excellent album, full of renewed energy and ideas. For me, it's the best DT release since 'Panzerfaust' - but I think their new style has progressively weakened with each release since 'The Cult is Alive'. It's time for some new ideas again.

I hope they will come back to something more similar to DT & BF. Circle the Wagons was ok, but not as good as the previous one.

+1 on both. I did enjoy the previous album better and I think Hiking Metal Punks easily stands among the best heavy metal songs written in the 00's. That update on long tracks is making me feel a bit hopeful.

I like all Darkthrone eras but the newer punker albums I like a bit less. "Hate Them" is one of my favourite Darkthrone albums.

Hate Them & The Cult Is Alive were awesome, let's hope the garage heavy metal is buried now.

"Hate Them" was really good indeed, so were "Ravishing Grimness" and "The Cult Is Alive".

I also like "Total Death", "Sardonic Wrath" and "Plaguewielder" a lot too, hahaha...

I never unterstood all the hate for Plaguewielder, it's a catchy as fuck record, I can sing along to almost the whole album.

From what the band has been saying, I think that FOAD phase is over.
I just read that the record may only have 6 tracks that are very long...
total opposite of the last several records, no?

"We might complete the new album this weekend. Songs that reach 10 min is on the way. Might end up with 6 songs on the album, and it's many years since that happened. We are both VERY exited now and ready wrap it up!"

Sounds promising.

All of their material after Panzerfaust is subpar horseshit. The band has been shit for a very long time now, anything they release now are just tantamout to parodies.

This.

It does. I'm not into the punkish darkthrone stuff at all, but a bit like Metallica, their early stuff is so great that I've not written them off and I'll always check out a new record in the hopes that they'll pull another great album out of their sleeves. Doesn't have to go back to the old style at all, just something good

Problem is there are like 8 other DT records that are better and don't have the annoyingly well-wrought production.

New album comes with a seriously brilliant title, but who didn't give up on post-2005 Darkthrone long ago?

Excluding the debut, from 'Panzerfaust' to 'Sardonic Wrath' is my favourite Darkthrone era, sp. 'Ravishing Grimness'.
From 'The cult...' on they mean nothing to me.

^ Looks promising too.

The band's words and this cover both strongly suggest a timely new direction for Darkthrone.

Absolutely amazing and evocative of epic third league 80s HM private press albumcovers. I expect total Manilla Road worship. Great cover and totally unexpected direction as judging by (great) title's electric implications I imagined something more Exciter'sque - amps etc.

Cant fucking wait. Everyone who says Circle the Wagons is shit is just plain deaf and dumb and leave the hall.
