Although technically more of an interlude, Qliphotic Necromancy by Teitanblood is a personal favorite. It sounds real. _________________ ...BUT WE ARE ONLY HUMAN

That dark medieval times intro is pretty awesome, its a segment taken from the WHEN album "Black, grey, White" song is death on the blue lake
Of course "at the fathomless depths" is timeless
For intros that last the whole album...Neptune Towers "Caravans to empire of algol" comes to mind _________________ "walk with me into the fire"- Martyrvore |

Probably the best.
Raven's Hike on the split with Torgeist is also awesome. |

I skip all intros if remotely possible. A few of them (mostly already mentioned) are decent and fit an album well but I still never want to hear them more than a couple times. Usually I'll like an intro more if it is actual music as opposed to just some ambient background stuff. A good example is "Martyrdoom" by Dead Congregation. Al Svartr from Emperor is a decent one too.
I like metal as opposed to the 2 minutes of nearly identical sound tacked onto most albums. Wow, more wind, wolf howling, eerie keys, some chorus of monks, some guy talking in a creepy voice...usually sends me off to sleep. _________________

| Suffer the Gestalt off of MUTIILATION's "Remains..." album always gave me chills. Perfect intro for the really decrepit and wretched atmosphere that album creates. |

Can't believe this thread made it to its 5th page without a mention for the indisputed masters of eerie intros:
