Zolrak ripoff? Now what? |
Well, I'm not going further with this.. But he is a well known scum here in Mexico, just ask Tomas of Morbosidad or Pete Helmkamp about how he tried to steal 100USD from merch sales, that's why he gets kicked out from every band he is invited to play in, problem is the guy doesn't show his true face to their "millions" of international "friends"... Anyways not going to turn this thread into a "Fuck Zolrak" one... Good luck with fest 13. |

Only went on Friday, but it was good. Nice altars on the front of the stage!
Cult of Fire was good. Svartidaudi was good as well, but near the end I found it a bit difficult to keep my attention to the gig, because of their long songs and the fact they played them all very fast after each other, so that it became one long song, which often is good, but in this case seemed a bit long for my attention span.
Pseudogod was way better than in Berlin, really good gig! Also, really glad that they played Azazel, fucking great track! I missed this track in Berlin and I understand why they solved it this way, so I think it would be good if they always played live with two guitar players. The obvious, but a bit weird, thing now was that their was the whole gig and then the last track with two guitars and bassguitar, so that the whole sound changed, which made the last track sound a bit separate from the rest of the set. Still, very glad they played that live!
Horna: some good tracks, some less interesting. So, least interesting gig of the night for me.
Mare/Black Majesty were also really good!
So, a very good night, bands being tight on schedule was nice as well.
Hope they'll organise it again in Brussels next year! |

MGLA's drummer.
That fucking son of a bitch of a genius.
Blew me away.
MGLA was supreme. They were the best band of that overall awesome fest.
Great songs PERFECTLY executed. Faces entirely shrouded. So powerful and masterful...
1st time I saw Black Witchery and they were as devastating and relentless as I had expected. Killer through and through. The pit was rather lukewarm. Slightly disappointed in that as I was expecting a full-blown war...
Sargeist was ok. Not into the band so...
Urfaust had sound issues apparently, xxx was pissed. I missed the slower, heavier tracks...
Hetroertzen was a great surprise. Didnt know the band and they put some real onstage occult BLACK MASS gimmicks. The band that really went into the "Black Mass" thing. Their performance was like a ceremony with the whole shebang you would expect from an occult mass. Musically it sounded very tight and interesting. Will definitely check them out!
Left before VEMOD.
Friday.
Arrived at the last third of the SVARTIDAUDI set. Pissed. What we saw was amazing. Great atmosphere and as with MGLA simple recipe: great songs perfectly executed without gimmicks. Killer set, can't wait to see them again for a full set! As good as I had expected. Really one of the best recent bands in the scene today. A NEW EXCLUSIVE MLP was released for the show.
Pseudogod was very good. But... I dont know there was something missing so that it would be really great. Hard to tell but just not as food and intense as SVARTIDAUDI, MGLA and BLACK WITCHERY...
HORNA was a bitter disappointment because of one of the lousiest drummer I've ever seen. That dude couldnt keep his shit together and wasted every single song because he couldnt play correctly. What a shame... Being a fan of Horna I was eager to see them... Last time I saw them was in 2007 in Paris and ´twas much better...
MARE was awesome. Good mix of Black Majesty and Mare tracks. Great to finally hear Black Majesty's tracks with a CLEAR AND POWERFUL sound! It almost sounded a bit Death Metal by the way, reminded me of Necros Christos almost while the MARE tracks were great classic Norwegian BM. Outstanding stage presence, real occult feeling.
Also MARE's MLP and 7" got repressed as a LP. I think that "new" LP was gone by Saturday.
Thanks to 13 and all the ones who organized that fest. Place was rather huge considerîg the genre and it was CROWDED. Die hards from all over Europe, no kids, almost no hipsters. La crème de la crème seriously kvlting if you ask me. _________________ DISJECTA MEMBRAE plays Vomitive Doom

Sounds like he was just drunk in the finnish way. Nothing new what comes to Horna. _________________

It's ok to be wasted if you're the singer. But the drummer is the foundation of a band and that guy, who was STRUGGLING, made every song sound bad. It was embarassing. Especially when other bands had killer drummers which slayed and made their band triumph. If HORNA's drummer doesnt give a shit about HORNA and playing decently why doesnt he just quit? I'm sure FINLAND is filled with great dedicated drummers...
And I forgot to mention HORNA's singer's obnoxious/grotesque striptease. Dude ended up naked. OMG
Also KIDS? People of 25-30 aint kids to me and that was the majority o the audience. _________________ DISJECTA MEMBRAE plays Vomitive Doom

Guuuuuys, it was all about Urfaust. I loved the drummer's compulsive pointing and instead of occult stuff, they added a personal touch on stage by putting some fiery red-and-yellow Jupiler cans on the speakers.
But while I can't complain about the fest itself, the neigbourhood was utter shite. Every muslim in a car just kept slowing down to keep staring at us while walking down the street and it almost looked like the last minutes of the fest was going to be a fight when some of them stopped their car in front of the venue and kept on honking. And some taxi drivers seemed to be retarded as well. _________________ ONLY DEATH IS REAL |

Really? We got approached by some hookers but that's all. No issues otherwise...
The fest was great. Fuck the troll, there might've been some young folks (myself included) but the crowd was very good overall.
Only got to see a bit of Sortilegia on thursday (and they bored me to death), missed Teitanfyre and came back for Sargeist and OTOH. Sargeist were decent, nothing special, OTOH nailed it. Never was a huge fan of their studio work but their stage presence and performance were so powerful and demanding, I was pleasantly surprised. Highlight of the day.
Friday... Cult of Fire were unknown to me but were great. Svartidaudi lived up to all expectations, still one of the best bands/releases of 2012. Pseudogod was crushing. Horna was a good moment to drink beer/browse merch/get some fresh air. Mare/Black Majesty was the absolute highlight of the day and perhaps the fest overall. Atmosphere, sound, presence, they had it all down.
Hetroertzens ritual was a good opener. Got us in the right mood. Urfaust was good but near the 3rd/4th song the guitar sound seemed to turn into mush and it got very hard for me to distinquish everything. Too bad. Behexen doesn't do much for me. Mgla were one of the best acts of the fest. Perfect. Black Witchery... Not my thing, beer time. Vemod were yet another pleasant surprise. Just like Mare (not very surprising) they had everything down. The final song and soundscape/ambient ending were a good way to end the fest, though I was bummed it was over already.
Best acts of the fest were Mare, Vemod, Svartidaudi, Mgla and OTOH, in that order. If there's another edition, it'll definitely be worth the trip again.
Thanks to Ole and everyone else who made this possible.
ps, what on earth is a bicky burger? We never bothered trying to find out but I'm still curious... _________________ In Fear and Flame and Death! |

Pseudogod, Mgla and Urfaust ruled the fest.
Adding one more single word is pointless.
