Does Slint count? Spiderland is a beast of an album. Big Black obviously should be added. |

I've always been a little confused about what exactly Noise Rock is, because all of the bands that have been listed seem to have little in common. it doesn't seem like it is very stable genre. I took a detour from metal and was listening to all of these bands back in the 90's and I tended to think of them more as alternative, as in an alternative to commercial music and not as in Billy Corgan.
But when anyone said "noise rock" I thought immediately and only of Unsane.
Cherubs, anyone? |

interesting this idiom which is sort ov inbetween no-wave and hard rock, yet without definitiv borders.
THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS are the best band in several styles simultaneously...HARRY PUSSY and early FLIPPER befor they tuned their guitars....keep going further down the noise rock rabbit hole and you end up with ANGRY HATE, and the blackened-noise ov the mighty GONKULATOR.
There's also two subschools, the early SONIC YOUTH microtonal tuning school and the early FLIPPER we're-not-musical-enough-to-even-know-it's-out-ov-tune school.
I also fondly recall a slew ov bands like LUCKY PIERRE and other one-offs or mystery-situation-type bands on both BEAST 666 and LOS APSON (both Japanese labels) compilations....also never forget one ov the very best: 8 EYED SPY, who were just on tour (new line-up) ! |

Swans?
Haha. It's like rock but noisier than AC/DC who I would refer to as normal rock? |

Listening to this LP right now. Such a good album for a crappy winter evening. |

I tend to think of Amphetamine Reptile when I hear the term "noise rock", bands like God Bullies, Lubricated Goat, King Snake Roost, Cows, Hammerhead, Guzzard, Unsane, early Helmet, etc. etc. _________________ Evil Is As Evil Does... |
