This. Anyways, I'm glad their current live condition is supposedly pretty good, of course I will go to see them when they hit Finland just to see Venom for the first time ever, it is VENOM after all. |
Same here. I mean i'd go mainly to watch Cronos perform. After all he's still Cronos lol |

I was never a big fan of At war, it has a certain mid-80ies Ozzy/traditional heavy metal vibe that makes it almost unbearable for me (which is odd as I love regular heavy metal usually, I think it doesn't work too well in the context of Venom). Possessed is a decent record but the chemistry was clearly gone by the time that album was out. I know I'll probably get a lot of shit for this but I actually like Prime Evil better than these two records. _________________ Permabanned |

| I tried getting into Prime Evil, but the botched Sabbath cover and lack of Cronos put me off from it. |

with the exception of WTE, all Venom albums have fillers.
That said, At War is great but off Possessed I just love the title track.
and yes Cast in Stone rules! _________________ VAE VICTIS |

Having bought it when it came out, I personally thought "AWWS" was and still is a killer album, but they could have put out a couple more just straightforward face pounding "Venom" albums before getting into that album side length song type of material.
Unfortunately "Possessed" seemed like they were trying to get back into that original idea, but somehow missed the mark and it was pretty mediocre. I think the album also suffered from (and this will sound very Spinal Tap here) but from poor mastering. It was a lot of material and the LP sides were pretty long from what I remember, so it came out a kinda sounding "flat" in comparison to the blasting first two LPs. I seem to remember the band themselves even complaining about the sound issues at the time of release, but that was close to 30 years ago so my memory could be wrong.
But again, all Venom was good Venom until "Calm Before the Storm" which was a disaster. It was a painful time in metal, watching bands like Celtic Frost release "Cold Lake" and Venom doing LPs like this, very strange turns of events. _________________ ***************************

The only record I'll trade for is a CELTIC FROST "Morbid Tales" original Noise picture disc! I need one please!!!

Come on, Muscle is a great track
Funny, I had the (Swiss?) pressing of this titled "Metalpunk" and bought Calm Before the Storm not knowing it was the same album. How disappointing.
I love At War With Satan and Prime Evil. Possessed never really held my interest, it's decent but not a favorite. |

Just look at my screenname. 80-86 venom is gold. Especially all the singles and EPs.
Title track on Possessed is as good as anything they've done. |

I think that 'Calm before the storm' is an overall decent album. Some good catchy songs here and there, esp. that "Under a spell" chorus which makes me want to grow a moustache and a mullet... _________________ Great deals with: Orionized, DEVORADOR DE PLAGAS, Mental Funeral, MEDICAL_WASTE

| I actually like Prime Evil quite a bit. It was sort of a return to form for Venom. Demolition Man does a pretty good Cronos imitation! As for Cast In Stone, I really only like Flight Of The Hydra. But, maybe i need to break it out and revisit. |
