Because I listened to it this morning...Enslaved's Frost has some pretty awful sounding and mixed drums as well. Very clinical. |

Agreed. The guitars aren't loud enough either. Still a great record, though. |

Any other notable example to puke at? |
this thread I am into.
just got the NECRODEATH (Italy) demo from '85 and it re-proved to me why i'll buy most demos sound unheard: the engineering production is unsupervised and most often impressively immoderate...you couldn't pay Bob Rock a million dollars to SIMULATE the drumsound on their demo...like, I don't know, fluffy toadstools each with a contact-mic with shallow-decayed reverb on them? |

Yeah, and MORSÜRE was probably the last time I had this feeling....
I´m really not that picky when it comes to drum sounds... |

Same with Vader - Litany. Too loud, too dominant into the sound, too clinical. Unlistenable for me.

I normally feel the same way about similar sounding albums, but I think it really works on Litany. I turn the bass down just a little a bit on my EQ and it sounds quite good and powerful to my ears. It complements that super heavy and bass-y guitar tone quite well, I think. Left as is, though, some of the non blasting parts sound like dance music for sure.... _________________

I get that same techno vibe from certain parts of Litany too. Ordinarily that would put me off pretty quickly. But for whatever reason I love that album. It's a fucking masterpiece. |
