Don't care where they are now and what they did in the career but the first two CELTIC FROST worship records are the fucking business. Listened to Cause of Death and Slowly We Rot today while the family were out and don't know why I haven't listened to them more often over the years. My Slowly vinyl was covered in dust, that's how long it's been since I took it out.
Anyway, don't really rate the records after Cause... but saw them live recently and they played mostly stuff from the first two records and they were really good. Last time I saw them was in London for the Cause of Death tour and it was almost as good now as it was then. Well worth checking out if they pass by. |

Can't vote, undecided. Debut is great with the raw almost demo-like sound that can't be matched. "Cause of Death" is probably the heaviest American Death Metal album out there with some of the sickest vocals ("Chopped In Half" and "Find The Arise"). Both album covers are also fitting. |

Slowly we rot by far.
One of the best death metal albums ever. |

Cause of Death, no doubt. One of the first death metal albums I had, along with Symphonies of Sickness and the debut of Deicide. Plus it has probably THAT ultimate cover artwork.
Slowly we Rot is of course mandatory as well. The End Complete I rarely listen to, always considered that album a bit disappointing. But again, awesome artwork. |

I heard that the artwork for Beneath the Remains was originally done for Cause of Death. Would haven't had quite the same effect. Agree 100% with you. Hard choice. |

And I heard that "Cause of Death" artwork was originally planned for Sepultura's "Arise" LP. Will have to google this one.... |

Might be me that's mixed up here...there's a year between them all anyway
EDIT: According to WIKI Cause of Death artwork was supposed to be for beneath the Remains. We were both right and wrong haha |

I was going to vote for TEC mostly out of nostalgia because it was one of my first death metal records and I played the shit out of it back then. But nostalgia aside, my vote goes to SWR because it has aged pretty damn well imo. _________________

Slowly We Rot. Really definitive record for Death Metal. I think it really showed where the genre was headed back then. Plus, it was one of the first Death Metal LP's I ever listened to.. |

Cause of Death.
It was a more mature, dark, and apocalyptic rotting sound for the band. It is absolutely their best record. _________________ Helcaraxë - Death Metal

Indeed, if I think about it. Even slightly better than "Cause of Death", maybe because it's such a chaotic and undefinable stream of pure GORE.
Still, COD remains their artistic masterpiece. State of art Obituary-wise. |
