That's exactly why a lot of artists don't use it. Lady Gaga made $50 from it one month, and she was by far the most played artist on there (when her second album just came out). You know something's fishy when that happens

Wasn't that actually 150 dollars paid to one half of the song writing team, on plays out of Sweden?

But yes, many artists will have to have hundreds of plays before they earn a single dollar.

It was for one song, "Poker Face" (probably one of her most famous ones) but it was the total payout. And I did get the amount wrong, it was around $150

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/spotify-1-million-plays-108-return-1944051.html

So you'd need over 6,500 plays to earn a single dollar by my very quick calculations

And Spotify's side of the story. It seems like there was some controversy over all of that. But, that was 3 years ago, almost an entire lifetime when it comes to web culture.

But we agree in principle. I have read that small artists get paid hundredths of a penny for each play on some streaming services.

Who needs this jew bullshit when there's Soulseek?

That's possibly the most "Jewish" comment I've ever seen on here Rolling Eyes

Spotify = paying some website for some band's music but the band WON'T see a dime from it.

Soulseek = download the same band's music for free.

It's basically the same thing, the band will not get a cent for what I downloaded, but at least I won't be fattening some jew's (who is making a profit and NOT paying the bands) pockets.

And yes, I do buy "physical" music regularly. I buy from the bands or labels, not some outsider jude.

The difference is that the artist / label decides to put their music there, instead of just blatant downloading which neither party has any say in.

Well in that case it's ok I guess. I didn't know that the bands/labels willingly put up their stuff in that shit. Very Happy

At any rate, I would rather make my own lps/cds/tape rips if I want them on my phone and shit.

The article just says it was "claimed" that she made that much on the song, but the story seems a little more complicated than that. To be honest though, you'd have to wonder how much the labels make from this stuff. Maybe not a lot but when you think that they'll use any means to make any money, I'm sure they're not doing it for the benefit of the people. If it wasn't profitable for them, they simply wouldn't allow it or they'd be charging spotify more for the right to stream their music which spotify doesn't exist without. I mean according to the article in the link you posted it says

Record companies own a major stake of the company (Spotify) in the UK.

Exactly, I dont see why people are expecting this program to have uber underground metal at all, its obviously marketed towards mainstream crowd, the best thing you can get here are Nuclear blast metal and several underground acts like previously stated. .

Not true everything from Vomitor to Revenge to Negative Plane can be found on it. It may not have every single Goat band in existence on there, but it has more than you'd imagine. I've discovered a few bands from it.

anyone still use this? Has about HALF of what I want in terms of DM/BM, which is kind of, ugh, absurd. Surprised to see half the stuff I have on there, using Premium (@ 99cents for the first 3 months) so can save albums to play offline which is super handy while working. Who has got the Playlists or recommendations?

My wife wanted to switch from apple music recently so we just got a dual account family membership, for $15 between the two of us it's not such a big deal. I mainly use it on my phone for puttering around the house, in my basement workshop, when I'm cleaning or whatever. Also for finding stuff we can both listen to while cooking or eating dinner. I have all my MP3 files backed up and spotify is just not able to match my very specific library of obscure music.... but it's great for checking out new bands, and hearing stuff I haven't had the space to rip to MP3...

Of course it's not able to compete with my record library, but how often am I able to sit in my nice living room and listen to my nice records on my nice stereo? About 5% of the time I actually listen to music. It's an unfortunate reality, between working, commuting to work, walking my dog, household responsibilities...... however I haven't had any interest in not buying records......

I use it with Chromecast Audio (plugged to the amplifier) to play music on my stereo.
I'm usually in home cooking or whatever and I can play looooots of albums (not only mainstream) just using the phone (but through the stereo, not with the crappy phone quality).

Also the playlists are cool, made one with classic songs to play when I'm with some friends having a drink as background music. You can invite your friend to join and add new songs, as well.

In the office I use the "explore" feature, which recommend me songs, albums, etc. I like it, too.

And like someone said before, in 2009 / 2010 I was heavily against paying per streaming and now using Netflix and Spotify daily... not sure if that's good but I really enjoy both.
