We recently had the Iron Maiden poll which, for me at least, was an easy choice. Judas Priest is much harder. They have so many brilliant and completely classic albums spanning more than two decades. From the early stuff such as Sad Wings of Destiny and Sin After Sin to the furious Speed Metal of Painkiller. All round amazing band that I prefer a thousand times over Iron Maiden's gallop-rock. This is just opinion though, and this is not meant to be a Maiden vs Priest thread. Anyway, so what's your favorite era of the Priest and why?

Ps. I had to remove some albums because of too many poll options and ended up going with Rocka Rolla, and Ram It Down. That doesn't mean I don't like them.

I really like Painkiller, but screaming for a vengeance is also brilliant. It's hard to choose to be honest.

I'm kind of fed up with Painkiller and have been for few years. Now I prefer Sin After Sin or Stained Class a thousand times.

STAINED CLASS!

Hard one, just like the Maiden poll, i'd go for Sad Wings even if the 10 1st( Exclamation ) are mandatory, also where is Rocka Rolla and Nostradamus is very good too .

I'm a priest maniac it's so difficult to choose..
i'm between screaming.. and defenders..
defenders maybe is more metallic and I've done more headbanging with but I'll go with screaming ,'cause its my first one.I was shocked everytime I was hearing it and it was addiction.
Best heavy metal band ever along with Manowar for me.

Sad Wings of Destiny. Stained Class and Sin After Sin aren't far behind though.

70s Priest is pure genius, but I have to vote for Painkiller. Just a perfect Heavy Metal album from start to finish, filled with killer riffs and leads like very few others. Stained Class is a close second, though. 80s Priest can be a bit hit or miss for me, but all around a great fucking band.

any of the stuff between 74'-79'...too bad "Rocka Rolla" is not a choice...some of the most epic tracks on that album like the ending of "Run of the Mill" with the massive high vocal notes...as well as the beginnings of what were to become some of the of the most innovative ideas/riffs/songs in metal...and of course onwards through the unstoppable "Sad wings.." through to "Killing Machine"....such a huge volume of great stuff... and the NWOBHM pretenders had for the most part yet to cut even demo tapes...

Not to down the 80's output of the band, but by the time "British Steel" rolled up things we're starting to get sort of "normal" and predictable in the bands sound...some great moments pop up here and there on "Screaming...", "Defenders.." and (dare I blaspheme) even "Ram it Down"....most folks discard that album due to it following that "other" album but it actually has much more in common with some of the things off of "Defenders" and even a hint of what would follow on "Painkiller"...bubble-gum lyrics aside that particular album has some great solos and riffs and if one hasn't actually gone there they may be surprised by that one...

And then on to PAINKILLER...this one is like shooting fish in a barrel, you can't really hate this album...it's got all manner of "metal" wound all around it....but then it's over and then it collects dust while i keep making my time travels back to the 70's worshipping the early stuff and albums like "in Rock" ....hmmmm, maybe there's a thread in the calling....

Really tough. 70s Priest as we all know is pure gold. I'd be between Killing Machine or Screaming as my personal favorite.

I went for Defenders simply because it's so absurdly underrated. The album has so many killer cuts like Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker and the amazing epic The Sentinel. It is in my humble opinion quite a bit better than Screaming.

Undeniably awesome band and one of the first that got me in to metal.

Voted Painkiller because I really think that it's their most solid work. Not a single bad song and almost every track KILLS. The musicianship, the songwriting, the vocals.. ARGH, the adrenaline rush.. On the other hand it IMO contains none of the "top 10" Priest-tunes.

I still dig more the 70's/early 80's output. I just don't think that besides Painkiller Priest never really made another flawles full-lenght. There seems to always be quite alot of fillers (Though Sad Wings is almost pure gold).

Somebody please tell me what's the thing with British Steel. Many people seem to consider it their best... I've never seen why.. It has Breaking the Law and Rage but otherwise it's just tidious mismatch of generic Heavy, bad party-rock.

Judas Priest is leaps and bounds better than Iron Maiden. As for my favorite album, it's a toss up between Sad Wings of Destiny and Stained Class. I can never decide.
