The New French Extremity Movement is a breath of fresh air to the tired, stale, and repetitive horror movie genre of today. Martyrs is the only movie I can compare to Hellraiser II, and that's quite a big feat.

Martyrs fucking sucks. Dumb as hell, and I had high expectations for it based on what people told me. Just cheap torture porn. Gaspar No is better but still extremely overrated. I stand alone is pretty grim but after watching it twice I dont think I will ever watch it again, the whole gun-shot sound effect thing and the warning just comes off as a cheesy gimmick.

If you like New French Extremism Michael Haneke is where it's at 110%. The Piano Teacher is a brutal and heavy movie and a lot more dark and emotionally scarring than any of the films you listed above. Granted it's not a "horror" movie, but still puts more or less the rest of New French Extremism to total shame. Cach is also definitely worth seeing, twisted and fantastic film.

Haneke aside, to me the movement is sort of cheap bullshit. Pretentious films that don't deliver.

(p.s. I am aware Haneke is Austrian but since he makes almost all his films in France these days, from what I understand he was at one point associated with the movement)

Gay brits, you gotta love em'. Martyrs rules and you know it. Your just a closet Wes Anderson fan.

Martyrs had a little bit of substance wrapped up in a whole lot of torture porn. Ultimately, the latter only had the effect of obscuring the former.

Seems a fairly accurate summary from what I can remember. Have to watch/endure again!

I'd like to see Martyrs again but I disliked it for the same reasons weaklingone did. The whole thing just seemed silly. Another one a lot of people like is Frontier(s)- pretty much thought it sucked but, again, wanted to see it again a couple years later so picked up a cheap copy & still thought it sucked.

Last dvd I watched was Horror Express with Chris Lee, Peter Cushing, & Telly Savalas. I remember seeing it on tv when I was a kid & the bleeding eyes freaked me out.

I watched V/H/S tonight, thought I would hate it for sure, but it was pretty good! More supernatural stuff and dark humor then I expected.

Then tried watching "This Must Be The Place"... had to turn it off.

Had a quite nice two-day moviemarathon this weekend.

Women of the Cellblock 9 (quite average WIP Franco-trash with the most sensuel peeing-scene of his career)

Gestapo's Last Orgy (After Ilsa the best Naziploitation-flick. Definately a stand-out from the genre with actual plot and weird, melancholic undertone. + feeding jews to the dogs, rats, Aryan gangbang etc. etc. Not a masterpiece OFC but overall underappreciated film)

Ilsa She Wolf of the SS (Classic. Oh the massive titties of Dyanne Thorne.. how they were punished..)

Sinful Nuns of the Saint Valentine (Not the generic nunsploitation that we expected. It's actually an ok B-rate adventure-movie with some sweet tittie-slapping-exploitation thrown in. A bit boring, but plot is very consistent and quite well written with a good ending)

Sacred Flesh (Made in 2002 by a director who seems to have distributed some Franco titles etc. in UK... THE WORST EXPLOITATION FLICK I'VE EVER SEEN... You won't be falling to your knees due the intensity with this one. It's not really even exploitation, it's just plainly annoying monolog of some nun about his supressed sexual desires with ok lesbian porno-scenes. It's so bad, the acting, the editing, the effects, the plot... The Oasis of the Zombies is a masterpiece compared to this)

Sadistic Baron von Klaus (Franco tries some gothic horror. B&W movie, with pretty scenery. It starts out fine but it quickly becomes obvious that without naked boobies Franco seems to be unable to offer anything worthwhile. Lacks suspension and the ending is very predictable. The best part was that some of the Francos stock-actors, like Howard Vernon, who are usually portraying faceless villains inserting objects in females, actually showed that they have some skills in acting)

Women's Camp 119 (Possibly the best WIP-movie by Bruno Mattei. Imaginative and intense torture with all moral thoughts thrown aside. Rotten to the core with bad effects, bad acting and masses and masses of barebreasted beautys to be stripped from their humanity. Definately first-date material and top 5 WIP-film)

Cashback (well..somehow this romantic-comedy popped up and we decided to watch it. I really don't get all the praise this movie is getting. It has a good premise but in the end.. There's an artstudent that's having a bad break-up and by the time movie is over he's gotten over it + all his dreams have come true.. Over-the-top candycoated romcom-bullshit with pseudo-intellectuel selfsearching. There are some good moments and the maincharacters recollections about his sexual awakening is interesting.. in the end that doesn't really lead to anything... Still far better than Sacred Flesh.)

Hobbit - The Unexpected Journey (As a Tolkien-fan with a bad habit of frothing over the adaptations of the original texts I promised to myself I would never see this movie.. well.. i was forced to watch it and now it's over. Overall it was bad, not completely though, there were few moments I liked....... well actually I wrote unnecessarily harsh and 13 pages long analysis about my experience.. but now it's all out of my system and I can return to some tittie-slapping fun)

Agreed. Ilsa is awesome, and Dyanne Thorne is a major babe.

Underrated actor Billy Drago does a creepy performance as villain there.

He is like a Latino version of Julian Sands, always booked for smeary and evil characters.

You should see Billy Drago's character in Mysterious Skin.
