I'm looking for printers than can handle very small runs of FULL COLOR LP jackets in 100 pieces or less.
So far it seems http://www.mobineko.com/ is one of the few. Any more? _________________

If you can live with it that they fuck up the colours completely Mobineko is the right choice. |

So has anyone else used this Mobineko place? I was looking for a place to print a small run of 100 black/white LP jackets. I remembered this place and dug up this thread, figured I'd ask if anyone had any further experience with them, good or bad. |

Well that's officially the best name for a printshop ever. Quality-looking shit, too. |

Most of these places that claim to do short runs are just charging the same rate as 500 pcs and dumping the extras. Just compare 500 CDs at AtoZ vs. 200 at Mobineko. _________________ I don't read DMs.

THIS THO. I was talking to Rich at A to Z about doing a run of 250 2xLPs and he was like 'look, no matter what, no printshop ACTUALLY does less than 500 jackets, they just toss the rest'. He was slightly amused when I was like 'BUT THAT'S WASTEFULLLLLL' haha. |

Ooof, AtoZ just sucks customer service wise though. Ordered some tape boxes and they were the most defective unsellable pieces of shit I've seen. Someone stored them at well below the 40 degrees Fahrenheit so the inlay plastic was wrinkled and fucked. Called to ask for a return and was shouted at by the owner. After I threatened to contact BBB, the guys tone changed quite a lot. |

OH MAN I KNOW - I used them for one cd release and they fucked my release date entirely and at first didn't want to discount the order at all. Will likely not be working with them in the future, even though they're literally 20 minutes from my door. |

I use AtoZ exclusively for CDs. Both Frich and Rob provide excellent customer service so I have nothing to complain about. _________________ I don't read DMs.

I'm sure they do. To you. They also name-drop you CONSTANTLY when trying to suck new labels in so it's not at all surprising that you've had no problems. My project manager didn't even RESPOND to my multiple emails about the missed release date until the date was well-past. Rich was a bit more reasonable, but he really needs to look at the people underneath him. |

Ok that's possible but Frich seems like a reasonable person. You should reach out to him directly.
Back to the topic at hand... LP jackets in small qty are usually done as silkscreened prints. _________________ I don't read DMs.

It appears as if they are silk screened if this is the release he made covers for:
http://pizzapartyprinting.com/store/main/records/machetazomarrow-split-mlp/
"Machetazo hailing from Spain team up with Baltimore death metal heads on this both epic sounding and looking saw blade record! This release is limited to 100 on silver with red blood splatter and 400 on black. Screen-printed covers. SILVER WITH RED BLOOD SPLATTER SOLD OUT."
Yeah, I mean at this point you can get 500 black/white actual offset printed LP sleeves from Imprint done for $450 (and that price is including shipping!) so these other places offering short runs are probably doing exactly what was mentioned above- running the minimum 300-500, selling you the 100 and dumping the rest.
I feel like "back in the day" that GZ used to do actual short run LP covers, because they're set up on a digital press so who cares if it's just 100? The places who require the full runs are mostly offset printing, which requires a lot more set up time and that's why they set the minimums of 500. But for a digital press it wouldn't seem like it's much different than getting something printed at Kinkos on a color printer, just a bit bigger and on different stock. I could be wrong but that's my theory anyway.... |

GZ is not digital printing as in digital color printing at Kinkos. They do digital to plates which is still a form of offset printing. Someone more versed in the printing industry can tell you more about it. Kramer probably knows more about this.
GZ's short runs are the same as printing the min and dumping a bunch of jackets. I asked about this exact topic when I did 6 different lim to 100 pic LPs for NWN Fest 3. They told me it made no sense to do 100 jackets because they would still charge me the min. I ended up doing a generic jacket that went with all 600 pic LPs. _________________ I don't read DMs.
