Saturday was also excellent. Biggest surprise: Morgengrau. I hadn't heard of them before they were announced on the bill, but they played some top-notch death metal. I don't really know what they sound like on record (so I'm not sure if my praise will translate), but I'll be remedying that soon.

This is why Signature Riff puts on such great fucking shows -- they bring in a few well-known bands, and mix in a few high-quality unknowns.

Anyway, other Saturday highlights were Bestial Mockery, Shitfucker (I had high expectations of these guys and they fulfilled them all), Martyrvore (the enthusiastic crowd helped), and Crucifier.

Lowlights include a some guy grabbing me to try to kiss me -- he wasn't moving fast, so I was able to shove him off before he got near my face. Mercifully, the lowlights were very few and rather benign.

So basically some guy tried to rape you? Now that's a festival!

Laughing
Never a dull moment in Brooklyn, yo.

But to be clear, I wouldn't say he tried to rape me. Just tried to get tonsil-hockey lucky with someone with whom he'd be chatting for the past 10 minutes. If I'd complained or felt that my safety (or the safety of any of the other female attendees) was legit threatened, I have no doubt that some of the other attendees would have delivered unto the guy a righteous beatdown.

Signature Riff does it again! What an amazing collection of bands...every single one put on a great performance.

Friday highlight for me was Decrepitaph...so fucking heavy.

Saturday was about the old school for me...Morpheus Descends was absolutely phenomenal - intense and crushing - band of the fest IMO. Funeral Pyre really kicked ass - I didn't know them before, but I am now a fan. Crucifier was so good...played a bunch of songs off Stronger Than Passing Time, and "Demons of Filth" from the first demo!! Wish I could have seen more of Desolate's set (fuckin' traffic sucks!!) but what I saw was excellent.

Have to agree with X-ray about Morgengrau - I've never heard of them before, but they definitely kicked ass. Both Martyrvore and Shitfucker sounded so much better live than they do on their recordings...excellent sets from both.

And of course Morbosidad (Friday) and Bestial Mockery (Saturday) ruled.

I could go on and on...every band was worthy of praise.

Hails to the sound guys...they did an outstanding job making every band sound great!

Wish I could go tonight too...

Question:

Who was the first band that played in the small room Friday night? I know it was supposed to be Ptahil, but they ended up playing late Saturday...

Only band I didn't see over the two days. I really wanted to see them, but it was 1000 degrees in there and I was just completely shot by 1:15. Seeing a one hour drive home ahead of me, I chose to skip Hour of 13...probably a mistake, but what can you do...

Was going to go but didn't have the funds (plus only wanted to see two bands on Saturday). How was Demonic Christ?
