other than Metallica the main ones I listened to were first 3 albums of Testament and Death Angel and of course Illusions from Sadus - never really cared for Exodus or Possessed much
also put me in the those-vocals-are-horrible category for Vio-lence which was a shame as the music was good _________________ www.mendicantmusic.com |

Possessed
Damnakleez
early Sadus
Desecration
Sacrilege BC
There's probably one or two others, but in generally I really don't like the style. _________________ If you are a false don't marry! Girlfriend is ok but only destructing anus from behind!!! - Fat Dagon

Kill em All and Bonded by Blood are completely unfuckwithable. Beyond that, I like Testament's The Legacy and Pleasures/Fabulous Disaster by Exodus are killer as well.
Sadus and Possessed are two of my favorite metal bands period, but they definitely aren't the first bands that spring to mind when I think of the Bay Area thrash "sound". I also could never get down with Vio-Lence or Forbidden because of the vocals. I should probably revisit them though, it's been quite a while. I loved the second Mordred LP as young skate rat, but listening to all that slap bass now makes me cringe. I should check out that earlier one I guess. |

A big fan of a lot of bay area (+ LA) thrash. Exodus, Slayer, Heathen, Dark Angel, Testament, Forbidden(2 first albums), Viking ... but then again, I'm a big thrash-head in general! |

well, if you don't like Bonded By Blood you can eat a bag of dicks.
and Slayer played so many Bay Area shows they were part of the scene obviously. Same with Metallica(who moved there) plus so many others.
Those bands created the riffs that every band you listen to now copies. |

Heathen "Breaking The Silence" LP and of course their demo as well.
And Metallica was from Los Angeles and I believe they moved to San Francisco when they heard that the scene for 'heavy' bands was way better than in L.A. |

Vio-lence's vocals are perfect! Eternal Nightmare is pretty much my favourite thrash album. |
