Dark Ages was always my favorite project from Drudkh members.

Is BLOOD OF KINGU still active? Will they record new stuff anytime soon?

They have recently signed up to Season of Mist...

New BOK to be released during the first half of 2014...

First album is a milestone of occult black/death with a REAL mystic feeling.
Second one is also great, yet more classic.

I really need to get into these bands. I love Drudkh's work, and I've been getting into Rattenfšnger, but I haven't heard much of Hate Forest, or anything of Blood of Kingu for that matter.

I sold all my collection (which was most of their releases before the new ones got out) except Blood & Fire and maybe Scythia. I still like them a bit but it's been a while. I shouldn't have sold Purity though, maybe I should have kept Sorrow too. Hate Forest can do some very interesting stuff but be pretty boring and unremarkable at others.

IMO Hate Forest has always been one of those bands to capture a very "pure essence" of black metal in their music, or my idea of it anyway.

I agree. "Purity", to me, stands as an album that describes what Black Metal is all about. The first time I heard that album was mind blowing!
I love everything from HF, except the ambient stuff; which I think doesn't fit HF sound and mood at all.
"Purity", "Battlefields", "Sorrow" and "Scythia" are my favourite records from them.
By the way, I'm just missing the "Ritual" EP. If someone wants to sell it for a reasonable price, let me know!

Battlefields is my favorite, together with Temple Forest demo which is great. I know these two are not typical Hate Forest albums, but I like them the most.

"Purity" is a good album, reminds me very much of IMMORTAL's "Battles in the North".

Sometimes a bit too much...

Purity has a fantastic feeling, when Battles in the North sounds completly sterile to my ears.

Yeah they always lifted some ideas from Immortal. That's still one of the finest BM albums of the 00s for me, The Gates is a truly phenomenal song... they also got everything RIGHT on Purity, as most of their material is very hit/miss for various reasons (f. ex. sounds, shitty drum machine...).

Besides that I only need Scythia, Battlefields and Nietzscheism comp.

Agree with the general sentiment already expressed about Hate Forest - they really nailed it with 'Purity'. Exceptional album.

Honestly, I love pretty much everything HF have done, but my most listened album of theirs is probably Sorrow.

Yes, "Sorrow" was very good...
the 2nd LP of BoK is very close to HF material

I really like the "Temple Forest" demo, manages to still capture the right mood in a completely different way.

New Dark Ages CD "Rabble, Whores, Big Noses" came out, it's pretty good (the first few tracks anyway). Listen in the right context!

BTW Dark Ages is now defunct.
