Dunno if they're a must, but all these books really impressed me, either coz of their pitiless eloquence or the overall keen-witted approach to human abysses.
McCabe "Death and Nightingales"
Wurtzel "Prozac Nation"
Germain "Days of Anger"
Alvarez "The Savage God"
Surely a must is Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita" when it comes to novels. What a joyous and sinister read. DEFINITELY recommended! A classic on the field of death research is Philippe Ariès' "The Hour of Our Death". It's amazing how factual and academic his work is without loosing its almost enjoyable readability. _________________

The front text says "and their present day counterparts". What's that suppose to mean? Reincarnations of famous witches? Transference of demonic aspects to contemporary public characters?
Could you please give an example? Thanks! _________________

I have the 1959 first edition of The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology. Missing the dust cover, which is a shame.
For those that like woodcut art, the best book I've come across so far is "Devils, Demons & Witchcraft". My friend had a copy which I looked at many times, but I never got around to buying a copy for myself.
I look a lot of:
True Crime
Classic Horror
Modern Horror (Edward Lee, Jack Ketchum)
Occultism
Religion
Old Poetry (Baudelaire)
Books on Horror Films (EVERYTHING by Chas. Balun)
Not long ago, the library was selling books for 25. cents each and I got half of a set called "Man, Myth and Magic" which is pretty cool, but I sacrificed them by cutting out a lot of images for my zine. |

Last few books I read:
- a book about trading in bodyparts in southamerica. Interesting, didn't floor me though.
- a book about secret armies in europe. Interesting but a bit longish.
- a book by richard laymon (don't know the english title of it). Liked it for
the sex and violence factor. Cheap thrills.
- "profit" by richard morgan. I like this a lot. Really, a lot!
Stuff I usually don't touch:
- the likes of nietzsche and other cronies.
- the likes of lenin and other cronies.
- the likes of "Why men have dicks and women brains" and other cronies.
(You probably get the picture).
Once in a while I buy photobooks, although they usually are friggin'
expensive. Nice ones:
- The one I have filled with pix of a-bomb explosions. Devastation can be so
beautiful.
- The one filled with pix of sleazy wrestling girls. The girls are as sexy as the
a-bomb is (that means supersexy, schmuck). And besides, you can crack
skulls with it - easily.
Credo: Reading shouldn't be torture.
Had enough of this in school. If I don't like what I just started to read - I won't finish it. |

This edition is from the 70's, if I remember correctly. There are pictures and reports of "modern" pagan/witchcraft rituals. Some pictures are pretty cool actually - big 70's costume baphomets, naked women with grey hair and saggy breasts... and some really nerdy looking men, haha. _________________ The Goat of fire in me ablaze

Ha ha, sounds more like some swingers convention!
@Morbid69 and anyone else, I'll post some bigger pictures of the engravings as soon as I get a chance to take the pics and reload them onto photobucket (school keeps me pretty fuckin busy!).
Also I have some cool HP Lovecraft paperback covers that are similar to Annick's that I'll put up... _________________ "Great holes secretley are digged where earth's pores ought to suffice, and things have learnt to walk that ought to crawl..." |

By the way - I found an old note from you, Kiem, dating from last March with an awesome dead Zeeb drawing on the bottom... I was about to recycle the LP box when it feel on the floor! I was all excited. Haha!! _________________ The Goat of fire in me ablaze

Speaking of picture books, a while ago my girlfriend gave me a book of artwork by Zdzisław Beksiński. Fantastic stuff, his artwork is morbid and musty. |
