I just saw that someone was asking what the Disembodied reissues are: They licensed it from Shark Rec as far as I know while CM is directly working on these with Jean Marc Tristani (guitarist), whose also doing the official merch and from the comments mentioning Treblinka, Morbid etc. I'm sure you'll know which version to pick Wink

Shark Records? Is this the label that illegally pressed New Renaissance Records' releases in Europe?

Hey everybody,
as I did this release (yeah, I'm one of the CM pricks, hehe) here's some news on the demo CD/LP, pre-order link and a song to check out:

“Apocalyptic Warriors (Chapter Final)” from the 1989 “Nearer From Death” demo can be heard here:
http://youtu.be/T0Pop_UMpsU

Formats:
CD at midprice incl. 24pages booklet, interview, commented and rare photos, Fred Death tribute page, comments on all demos, damn sexy black disc
LP on 180gr vinyl, incl. LP booklet and classic MASSACRA logo patch

The standard black vinyl and CD version can be preordered NOW at:
http://www.cmdistro.de/Artist/Massacra/1728

The strictly limited transparent red vinyl (only 100 copies) can be preordered from October 14 on at the same link!

Some additional infos:
“Day Of The Massacra” compiles the demos “Legion Of Torture” (1987), “Final Holocaust” (1988) and “Nearer From Death” (1989) remastered at DMS by Ulf Horbelt (Morbid, Asphyx, Grave, Necropsy) while retaining the original raw charm. Nathaniel Colas did a great in-depth interview with original MASSACRA guitarist Jean-Marc Tristani and Thomas Westphal of the infamous Necromaniac Zine (Germany) did the cover.

What??!! Over 55 min of music crammed into 1 single LP??? The sound will suffer indeed! This release deserved a 2lp treatment!
If you have spent 5 lps for that Treblinka release, this shouldn't be a problem for you! I'll have to pick up the CD version instead...and I'm pretty sure many will do the same...

CMDistro.com will most likely carry it.
As for the 55min cramped on a single LP - I will most likely have the finished LP here this week, listen to it thoroughly and tell you if it sounds good or bad.

The pressing plant must have warned you about this already...if they haven't, it's clear that they don't give a flying fuck about quality and just care about the $$$

55 minutes.. that is only 5 minutes longer than Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" LP and that sounded great on vinyl.
Is it because nobody now in 2013 can press vinyl as well as they did in 1984 ?

Just heard the LP for the first time and it sounds just fine, so it seems there still are pressing plants who can do the job right.

We had original master reels for "Nearer..." and "Final..." demos from Jean Marc Tristani resulting in great sound but unfortunately no original copy for the "Legion..." demo (though we searched hard for it) thus the latter sounds raw and a bit shaky now and then, the rest slays.

Cover, booklet, patch look all great.
So hopefully you will be convinced by this product and enjoy the violence Wink

Of course that you'll have to say it does sound good enough, it's your job after aLL and I can understand that. But the fact is that, even if it may sound "good enough", the CD version will definitedly sound better. A LP CAN'T fit 55 minutes of music without losing a significant ammount of sound quality when compared to the original source.
For example, that Vobiscum Satanas that Century Media re-released recently: the original recording was just perfect in length for a LP: less than 40 minutes playing time. But what did Century Media do?? They added 4 useless bonuses-fillers that no one needs and now the overall record is over 55 minutes. And how does it sound? Muddy and compressed...even my old cd sounds MUCH BETTER than this re-release.
I just can't understand why anyone would buy a LP which sounds worse than the CD, honestly...
And why am I bitching about this in the first place? I do like the band, and wanted the LP, but now I'll have to pick up the CD because the LP version is certainly ruined...

A decent discussion of this here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LP_record#Playing_time

Long story short, they've been coming out with longer LPs since 1952 and no one has died yet.

http://www.deathmetal.org/news/massacra-demos-re-issued-on-cdlp-as-day-of-the-massacra/

Please keep up polite pressure on CM to release the full-lengths in the USA, if not Day of the Massacra itself.

.

From the link you posted: "records had to be cut with much narrower spacing between the grooves, which allowed for a much smaller amount of dynamic range on the records, and meant that playing the record with a worn needle could damage the record. It also resulted in a much quieter sound".
Well you don't have to be an audio nerd to figure out that records with longer playing times will sound worse than the original recording or even the cds. As simple as that. Regarding this particular case, they simply don't care as long as there are teens who buy this for collecting purposes only and not for the music itself.

1 vinyl for 3 Massacra Demos ?

why not use 5LP'S as usual ???

seriously, why not use a bonus 7inch single to the LP ?

I don't think it's a binary distinction.

They've been doing this for over a half-century, and there isn't a huge revolt against it.

Further, they're not stretching the 45min normal length all that far, so it's not even clear we're talking about a loss of dynamic range that even exists on these recordings.

Again, look at the fundamental issue here, which is that the source recording is probably not great either.
