I've also heard smoke could effect playback on vinyl after a while, which makes sense. If it's actually staining and leaving residue on your walls, then it's doing the same to your records.

Notice I only care about the effects it has on my records and not my health, ha.

I'd still like to see an X-ray of your lungs, they must be fucked! Laughing

Being a heavy smoker myself, I moved to a new place a few

I decided to refrain from doing so (still smoking, but not in the flat).
Don't want to go back. Can't stand the smell anymore, can't stand
that sticky layer of yellow nicotine anymore (affecting everything,
books, records, walls, windows...). It really does make a difference.

Same here, I only smoke outside since I moved to my new flat.

Who spends time sniffing their records? Shocked

Anyway, I used to smoke inside at my old place, but since I bought a house I go outside. Its quite gross now that I notice the difference, when you go somewhere which is smoked in with no ventilation.

Although now that the banned smoking in bars in my state I've noticed just how much people in general smell bad, coupled with the stale beer and whatever in your average Aussie Pub. I try and sit outside as much as possible haha.

I don't enjoy getting stinky vinyl as I am trying to give the stupid cigarettes up again and my sense of smell is excellent! Horrid to get a stinky package like having someone else's rotten cig smell in your house, arg!

I don't see the issue here, if it smells like smoke, death and horror, well wouldn't it inhance the listening experience? i mean you wouldn't want the smell of roses and romance as your clutching The Rack sleeve and breaking your neck to the heavy brutality would you?

are you serious? would you lie down on a rotting human corpse while listening to carcass?

Lying on a corpse would be a bit extreme but yeah i couldn't care less if my vinyls stink of smoke, i wouldn't care if a yellow tinge marked the logos or whatever. Fuck, i've spilt beer on some, bent a few corners etc: They still play fine and give me what i need. I can't see myself getting rid of my records so i ain't going to go to the trouble of dusting the covers and singing lullabyes to them.
I'm not saying i don't look after them but shit happens and the stench of tabacco smoke is music to my nose.

It doesn't seem like this would cause a real problem unless you keep your records out of the sleeves just laying around to collect smoke.

My Bathory LP has a yellow/brownish tinge to it, looks quite good actually. I knew a guy who ran a record store who used to smoke his pipe all day long, those records smelt great! If a record can occupy at least four of the senses: sight, sound, touch and smell then even better! I just hope no one here tastes their vinyls before they put 'em on Laughing

I dont mind the smell of smoke when actually smoking, like at a friends house or bar, but when I come home if my clothes smell like smoke it smells bad. Same thing after camping, fresh campfire smoke yum, old smoke gross. Old wood items that have been smoked heavily around will carry the smell forever, like guitars. But that smell is like a bowling alley, which to me is nice.

At the record store that I work at, we have a guy come in a few times a month just to smell different records. He never buys anything, and never says a word. Just walks in, grabs records, smells them, then leaves. Laughing

Hahaha, that's fucking weird man. You should ask him one day why he does that, just for kicks... unless you're afraid that starts smelling you instead?
