Albums where the difference in quality between the good tracks and the bad tracks are the greatest.
Where some tracks are just utterly brilliant masterpieces that make you fall to your knees with ball-smashing intensity, while others are absolutely fucking horrible and make you get up off your knees right away and slowly shake your head in shock and disbelief.
Came to think of this because of Turbund Sturmwerk, which I just mentioned in another thread. On the Weltbrand album, you've got the absolutely magical "Sonnenchild," one of the greatest, most epic, bombastic, goosebump-inducing Hitler-was-a-motherfucking-wizard tracks of all time, followed by the laughably clumsly, off-kilter Mongoloid-reciting-Nietzsche weirdness of "Allen Gewalten." What the fuck happened there!? |

All Pigs Must Die. Did anyone ever wander to the b side after the first mistake? |

Yes I did two or three times. It's a spell of destruction, the second half of the record ruining the first one. An interesting concept but the result is awful! |

Non-metal but LFO's Frequencies falls right into that category : side A is perfect, side B boring as fuck. |

As much as I love DiJ, that album is probably his low point, including the first side. Yeah, we get it: your label fucked you over. Please go back to singing about flowers and thinnly-veiled references to the Third Reich. |

I think a lot of DiJ stuff is pretty inconsistent. Brown Book's B side is a severe decline from the A side, the live stuff on Burial, the experimental tracks on Wall of Sacrifice, etc. |

Manowar's Fighting the World comes to mind for me.
Most of the album is filled with commercial drivel like "Blow Your Speakers", the title track and "Carry On" (songs I admittedly enjoyed when I was 14...), but then there's a couple of amazing tracks like "Black Wind, Fire and Steel" and "Holy War". _________________ Evil Is As Evil Does... |

Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale
First two tracks are breathtaking. Third is ... alright. Rest are a bunch of dicking around / boring shit. |

Defenders of the Faith.
Tracks 1 through 4: arguably the best heavy metal every recorded. Side 2...not so much. The rest of the album is not horrible but it doesn't touch the beginning. |

I used to think I loved that album, until I realized I only listened to three songs. |

I can see what you mean about the beginning of that album being much stronger than the rest, but I think it's all great (except "When the Night Comes Down", which is kinda lame IMO). It can't touch 70's Priest, of course, but I think it's a MUCH stronger album than Screaming. Most people I know worship Screaming, but I've always thought it was pretty weak aside from a few really killer tracks. _________________ Evil Is As Evil Does... |
