The band itself doesn't necessarily need to be an epic metal band. Just focus on listing individual songs that give you an epic feel.

The Gates of Slumber - Descent into Madness
Manowar - Revelation (Death's Angel)
Manilla Road - Metal
Pagan Altar - Judgement of the Dead
Slough Feg - Tiger, Tiger
Iron Maiden - Revelations
Cirith Ungol - Finger of Scorn
Bathory - Shore in Flames
Black Sabbath - Falling Off the Edge of the World

Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Det Some En Gang Var, 793 Slaget Om Lindisfarne

Regarding Bathory, I've discovered Nordland way too late - the title track is pure epicness.

Epic implies a scale of grandness...I fail to see how the song Iron Maiden is epic. The other Maiden tracks you listed are undeniable though.

Also, A Mansion in Darkness (??) and not Black Horsemen

My mistake on the "Iron Maiden". I was thinking self titled album but the track I had in mind is "Phantom of the Opera" and not the title track!

As for KD the song in question remains my fave KD song of all time. "Abigail" is the first KD album I ever bought. This dates back to when I used to sit down and follow the lyrics with the music and this song in my opinion describes the cover of the album. It always had a 'special' place when it comes to my obsession with KD. But you are right "Black Horsemen" is also epic. And I could name a few more KD songs in this thread for selfish reasons. "Fatal Portrait" in its entirety could make this list as well.
