This duo seems to be seldom mentioned around here, but I'm sure there are fans amongst you all. Akitsa is truly unique force blending RAC, oi, punk, and sometimes even noise with raw, simplistic black metal.

Over a span of 15 years they've put out four full-lengths as well as a couple EPs, all of which have their own unique sound and quirks to them. I'm curious to hear which of their albums is your favorite?

(I chose to include Soleil Noir and none of the other EPs because it was the only one that was solely an Akitsa output [not a collaboration], and actually has a decent amount of content on it.)

I'm breaking my no polls sanction for this. Goetie is a fucking masterpiece. So many ideas and yet nothing sounds contrived or forced.

Seems a shame to disregard the Prurient split and the Thesyre collab. Both are as good as any of the album material.

Ash Pool split should be there too. But it's propably too much for regular black metal listeners.

Goetie for sure. But all of their albums are excellent.

I've discovered them through La Grande Infamie, and it's still my favourite. Pretty neat discography all along anyways.

I discovered them through Goetie, and while there are some absolutely magnificent tracks on there it suffers a little from filler. La Grande infamie sounds a little better to my ears.

My favourite is Soleil noir. It's where the balance between black metal and Oi is strongest. One of the most hateful records out there. I also love that intro for some reason.

La grande infamie is my favourite full-length album, and it's right up there with Soleil noir. Primitive and ritualistic, with out-of-this-world vocals. It's what black metal should be about.

The whole discography is good, and it is indeed an excellent live band, one of Québec's finest. My vote goes to "Sang Nordique".

Sang Nordique for me. My favourite track is "Vengeance Viendra" though...

We're in agreement here. They manage create such a tense atmosphere with such brutish simplicity, yet it commands your full attention, it really is a unique experience. And from what I can tell I was pretty lucky to catch them as they don't see to tour that often. At least not down here to Texas anyways.

Being the OP I guess I should've probably put my opinion in the first post, but you all seemed to have no problem striking up discussion for yourselves. For me it's a toss up between La Grande Infamie and Soleil Noir (the LP version of course; the Ian Stuart cover is mandatory). As was stated before the particular blend of oi/punk/BM on SN is amazing. But then there's the extreme stylistic diversity of LGI, yet they somehow manage to keep it cohesive and flowing... And the vocals, don't even get me started on those. I find it rare for the vocals to truly be a highlight within black metal, but Akitsa makes it seem easy.

In short exactly what Onge Bakstra said... Laughing

"Pendaison De L'humanité" off Goetie is one of the most savage/fucked up/insane/depraved vocal performances i've ever heard, and for that, I must go with Goetie. All around fantastic band and excellent live to boot.

Upon finally caving and voting for La Grande Infamie it looks like this poll is turning out to be pretty interesting. I haven't seen a poll this close between all the options on here before
