Seedna (Sweden) - 'Forlorn' digipak CD

Seedna from Sweden are changing the perception of the black metal genre. They've crafted a beautiful full length album that's intuitively tempered with harsh as well as soothing moments, taking influences from outside the genre but blending it in flawlessly. The 'hourglass' on the cover symbolizes the continuation of life after death; the album is strangely nostalgic yet refreshing, as if we're getting back memories of a past birth. There's the familiarity of the black metal genre but a tingling sense of freshness to it, which makes you want to experience it to the fullest, live life all over again. The album, with its well-timed alternating interludes, only embraces you completely, as you begin to lose track of time and reality. This one shatters the binding norms and creates music that elevates the soul to new realms. Almost akin to a spiritual journey, 'Forlorn' is full of revelations, as you go unprepared but expecting perchance a life-redeeming experience, one that will bring you closer to the attainment of nirvana.

"Forlorn continues to maintain a strong individual identity which is difficult to place in a genre box" - Metal Injection (US)

"a rare gem" - Noisey (US)

"sets atmospheric black metal-influenced movements" - Rolling Stone (India)

And I always take useless opinions of random losers very seriously. To heart.

Using new enhanced layerings through groundbreaking digital media, the covers of bands such as Tiamat and Therions most gothic trips in the nineties through the endless 3d world this band has managed, in close companionship with an alien graphic designer, to make a world of their own. So let us be sucked into a world of smoky timeglasses, watery drinking from ponds and perspectives of genres names.

I listened to one song. I don't like the vocals, they sound strained and forced, and not in a good way.
There seems to be a distinct lack of any metal, black or otherwise. I don't have a problem with metal bands who have extended clean guitar parts, or lots of other 'non-metal' parts, but those parts in this seemed boring, and vaguely reminded me of radio rock or something that was non-descript..

So, I always wondered what 'atmospheric black metal' was exactly that I'd seen people complain about on here. This??

Yeah, the artwork isn't the greatest. But look at all the 'support' and rave reviews. I'm wrong.

Atmospheric black metal was originally stuff like Burzum, Summoning, and Sorcier des Glaces before the moniker was adopted by art fags and urban lumberjacks making pretentious dreck who bitch about tolerance and acceptance when their music is called out as not metal.
