I'm sure this has been answered may times here.
If so, direct me to the correct thread.
Why do the songs abruptly stop
I'm used to it as Battles is my fave Immortal album
it's just weird. |

Stupid question. Maybe that's how it was intended? |

If it was intended, then there's a legitimate answer to the question, so no need to be a dick. With that said, I can't even listen to this album because of the horrible production. |

I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it, but there's 2 diff versions of the album right? In terms of production I mean. I have some horrible Russian version of the album, and the production is plain horrid. _________________ Trade/Sale List

i don't know what you're listening to. i don't know how "horrible" it is that everything is balanced in the mix . . . maybe you need 20 seconds of reverb for things to sound good? sorry . . . battles is completely dry.
it's "frostbitten", yo! _________________ http://www.ugEXPLODE.com

I'm not completely I_LOVE_PENIS'd out. But there are def two versions of the album and I believe I have the weaker one. _________________ Trade/Sale List

You may have something there my metal buddy.
Band's do weird shit all the time on studio recordings.
Sometimes they even leave 30 min of silence after the last track
and voila another hidden track after that!
Arcturus has a hidden track before the first on a CD and on and on
It never occurred to me that it might be intentional!
Thanks for informing me that it was a "stupid question"
I'll look out for your future posts and learn from the master the art of asking
proper questions.
All sarcasm aside, you are awesome! |

The drum production is atrocious. It sounds like a death metal album. The production is inappropriate for the music. The production on Pure Holocaust was perfect. Balanced my fucking balls. Unless I somehow magically had the first press production job, which I highly doubt, since I bought it in 2003, the production on this album sucks and renders it unlistenable. Even on a musical standpoint it still falls short of Blizzard Beasts anyway. And obviously is nowhere near the first two. |

i love death metal, so i have no problem with the production of "battles"
the story with the early rejected mix is that osmose did a promo version with a different cover sent to magazines and everyone hated it, so the redid it and that's the version we all know. basically if you have the white cover, you have the "new" mix, not the rejected one.
if somebody has a rip of the reject mix or knows of a blog, I"M DYING TO HEAR IT. _________________ http://www.ugEXPLODE.com

I think battles is the last great Immortal album, making each of the 3 differant for a differant reason. Abbath playing the drums is exactly similar like his sloppy playing in Den Hedenske Folk but i found this record great when i bought it and i dont mind the production it totaly fits their blashyrk icy concept, its an either hate it or love it album and it also depends when you heard it, in 1995 it was damn great i got the LP and the blue slipcase/face cd cover that also had the 3 tracks from the listenable 7"

That story is incorrect. The advance album was issued with a different cover, but the mix was exactly the same. I don't know about this Russian version, but the first edition was a white digi pack and there was also the LP version and the sound was exactly as it was on the promo version. Simply, Herve didn't think the cover was strong enough. I don't recall whether that deep blue image was taken during the same session as the released cover, but Abbath's father took the pix. If I remember the story correctly, they drove 3 hours north of Bergen, would shoot photos for 5 minutes and get back in the car to warm up again.
All other things aside, I love that album and I love the sound. _________________ Ashes to ashes
