Grave - You'll Never See
Unleashed - Shadows in the Deep
Varathron - Walpurgisnacht
Mystifier - Goetia
Sepultura - Arise
Massacra - Enjoy the Violence
Seance - Fornever Laid to Rest ("Saltrubbed Eyes" is completely overrated)
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Desultory - Bitterness
Carbonized - For the Security
Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (the correct answer, sorry guys who for some reason hate "Reign" or even "Hell Awaits")
Crypt of Kerberos - Cyclone of Insanity

But honestly I'm more interested in bands cut down in their prime:

Utumno
Crematory (Swe, of course)
Nirvana 2002
Pentagram (Chile)
Leviathan (US - Barnes's pre-Cannibal Corpse band)
Devastation (Chicago)
Mefisto

Every one of those should have made a full length or two. Our great loss.

plenty of obvious enough choices here how can you hate Hell Awaits? Their best album by a country mile.

Sepultura should be the winner here. One of my favorite thrash bands up to and including Beneath the Remains. Who could have known they would have gone so wrong for so many damn albums now, all equally as horrendous. They just won't quit.

I think this really applies to a vast majority of classic thrash bands who decided to keep on slogging it out. In my opinion more then anything else this is one of the very worst things to ever happen in metal. All these once great (or not...) thrash bands almost universally dragging their name through the mud. Slowing down, adding groove, trying to diversify their songwriting. Nothing but endless failure.

...except for Sodom, I still dig them.

At the risk of sounding completely untrue here, Arise is my favorite Sepultura record. I like everything before it a LOT though. Just nothing after.

It was my favorite for a long time too, though now I think I prefer "Beneath the Remains." Although they were trailblazers, I prefer that band's pure thrash period over the earlier black/death/thrash. In that style there are other bands I like a lot better than early Sepultura.
