My favorite release this year was:
West Wall - Conquest or Death.
Runner ups include:
Acheron - The Final Conflict
Asphyx - Death the Brutal Way
Diocletian - Doom Cult
Father Befouled/Helcaraxe split
Helcaraxe - Broadsword
Metalucifer - Heavy Metal Bulldozer (edit: JPN version of course!)
Slough Feg - Ape Uprising
Teitanblood - Seven Chalices
Weapon - Drakonian Paradigm
I still haven't heard the Arghoslent/Martial Barrage split, but I suspect it'll bump Weapon off the list. _________________ Basar North America / Promethean Burn: http://www.thebasar.org/NorthAmerica

In all honesty I think Engram is the only one worth mentioning. I was a little disappointed with the output at first, but the album grew on me quickly. Admittedly I am a huge Beherit maniac and regard Drawing Down the Moon as the best metal album ever made, yet still I feel right now that Demon Advance is the best single track they've made thus far. Overall, it's a superb mix of electronic influences and black metal.
Death the Brutal Way, The Light-Devouring Darkness, Catacombs of the Grotesque, Nailed, Defiance, Doom Cult, The Sleep of Morbid Dreams, Mortal Repulsion, Exalted Emanation, Death Transmutation, Fourth Reich, Swarth, All Shall Fall, Seven Chalices... None of these compare to Engram, and most of them are average at best in my eyes. _________________ METAL IS DEATH

So far best record released this year has been CANDLEMASS - "Death Magic Doom" in my opinion. One of their best albums I think. |

To me the german version sounds weak in comparison. Metalucifer only works with the japanese buddys.
edit: german version has metal inquisitor ger as line up, not gezol etc |

Agree totally, noting that the solos do have a bit more bite on the German version. _________________ https://professorblack.bandcamp.com |

In my opinion there's a pretty significant difference between the English and Japanese versions -- Gezol's vocals have a lot more range on the Japanese-language version. I speak some Japanese, though, so if you don't, you might be annoyed with not being able to understand anything but a couple of chorus parts...
And yeah, I didn't even bother with the German version. _________________ Basar North America / Promethean Burn: http://www.thebasar.org/NorthAmerica |

Heavy Metal Bulldozer was a disappointment for me, after waiting for it for quite some time and getting excited after hearing the excellent new track from the Sabbat Split, I expected something around those caliber.
Sweet Baby Metal Slut was a bit rushed as well IMO, Jero's contribution added a good heavy metal vibe but that's the only memorable thing from that release. |
