Technics RS-TR474

Easily the best deck I've had over the years. With all the technical mambo-jambo you need for perfect recording/dubbing. A Technics classic!

I spent a ton on one in the 80's and I still have it. It's a TEAC and it sounds great! The only problem is that nowadays it starts making this high pitched grinding squeal when you turn it on, and I don't know why. You can't hear it if you have headphones, though, so I really don't care.

Watched a video on YouTube, looks really nice. How much should I be paying for one?

I'have been the happy owner of Yamaha tape deck for years now.

A bit pricey but perfect!

I'm satisfied with my KENWOOD...
As for double-tape decks - they usually stop working way faster than single tape decks.

Do you find you get a lot of variation in sound quality when using a normal tape deck vs. some of the expensive stuff? For my black metal habit whatever odd Technics / Sony / whatever deck I can find from the second hand store does just fine when you remember to clean the heads properly.

Haha, there's nothing one can't find on YouTube, huh?

Dunno if there's any price differences between the European and US market, but I paid like 40 Euro for my deck. Seen it sold for about 20 to 30 Euro on eBay.de as well which is ludicrous regarding that deck was top class of its time and still is. I only clean the tape heads every once in a while and I dare to say the deck works just as good as on its first day.
