Glad to hear this. Old news I guess, but don't remember much discussion on here. Not entirely sure how good it's going to be, but I can still hope. Definitely hoping it's better then the Negativa EP though.

It's weird in a way because Gorguts has and will always be (or at least seem) a purely French Canadian death metal band, they were pretty much one of the first death metal bands from Canada to really break through and pretty much helped set the standard for other French Canadian death metal bands to follow (i.e. Cryptopsy and Kataklysm before they went gay, and all these other gay death metal bands now coming out of Quebec). But now 3/4 of the band are American and half of the line up is from Brooklyn! So in a way, that's kinda hard to believe. Nonetheless should be interesting...

my bandmate Colin (also Dysrhythmia and Behold...The Arctopus) is playing in Gorguts and i'm sure it's going to be great. Kevin Hufnagel from Dysrhythmia is the other guitarist and Longstreth is the drummer. they're working on new and old shit, including the songs "Erosion of Sanity" and "Obscura". I know they have 2 demos recorded, but aren't planning on releasing them to the public. they'll play a few shows before Maryland deathfest (which will probably be all classic material).

My all time favorite band... can't wait to hear it but I'm concerned about the new lineup too.

'Considered Dead' is their best album.

Agreed, definitely their most rotten. But still, I love almost everything after it (still not too keen on From Wisdom...).

I found that whole youtube rehearsal tune nothing but just progressive jam nonsense that sounded nothing like death metal. Gorguts...I stopped listening to them after Erosion Of Sanity.

Almost a masterpiece.

No, I agree completely. The riffs on that album are insane. That said I'm kind of biased so take it with a grain of salt.

I like both eras of Gorguts but for different reasons.

Yes! From Wisdom to Hate and The Erosion of Sanity are both perfect, obviously in different ways. I don't see why anyone would avoid Gorguts later material, it's the darker of their two periods IMO. I briefly talked with Luc via e-mail when news of the reformation came out and he didn't have too much to say at the time, but I'm confident that this will be good.

THIS.

None of these new members seem to yell "death metal cred" to me, except for Longstreth, and the only band he has been in I ever gave a shit about was Angelcorpse.

I have zero interest in new Gorguts.

I'm concerned about the new lineup too but it's always been about Luc so I have faith. Nothing against the new guys as I enjoy their particular bands. Longstreth is an incredible drummer but Gorguts has never been about ridiculous drumming so I hope he doesn't overdo it.

i don't think the new gorguts is going for "death metal cred" at all . . . obviously the trajectory of gorguts moves beyond what traditional DM curmudgeons are into. that's a given. i'm sure what Luc was looking for - and found - were a bunch of progressively-minded musicians to play the kind of music that HE wants to play, regardless of whether it sounds like the first two gorguts albums or not.

some bands don't just play the same thing forever. you certainly don't have to like that, but don't get all butthurt about it, like they're trying to diss you.

obviously with a record like obscura, some people hated it and some people loved it. it sounds like "trout mask replica" more than some generic death metal album. i don't think the band made it because they really gave a fuck either way. it was what they wanted to do. i'm all for that.

those guys are all great musicians and it's going to RIP FUCKING ASS.
