All those guys definitely have the chops.... as long as Lemay is at the helm to reel things in it should be amazing. I've never heard a Gorguts song that I didn't love, I have very high expectations for this album.

'great musicians' doesn't always equal great band.

I am very dubious about this new Gorguts.

THIS.

None of these new members seem to yell "death metal cred" to me, except for Longstreth, and the only band he has been in I ever gave a shit about was Angelcorpse.

I have zero interest in new Gorguts.

Same here, that track on the video was total shit. It had no momentum, and led no where, just seemed totally soulless to me.

I'll give the new material a chance, my expectations are low though. With that said I am super stoked to finally see at least some incarnation of the band live at MDF next year.

I like all their previous albums, so I'll give this one a shot. I don't care that the last couple aren't standard-issue death metal - it's not tech wank either, it's genuinely difficult and abrasive music. If "Obscura" is a bad, non-death metal album, I think you'd have to say the same thing about Portal or several other bands that in my opinion completely kick ass.

I'd consider Obscura more like avant-garde metal than pure death metal but it's a fucking awesome album either way. Stop being genre nazis and just enjoy the music...

Luc Lemay doesn't even consider Obscura a death metal album anyway...

'Considered Dead' is their best album.

Agreed, definitely their most rotten. But still, I love almost everything after it (still not too keen on From Wisdom...).

I think "Considered Dead" is my favorite... I didn't care for the more technical approach on "Erosion of Sanity"... but both are solid releases for sure!
