Maybe a tin-hat conspiracy, but I know of at least one person who has done this:
If someone else happens to list the same rare item after he had listed his, obviously bidders will hold back on their bids for his copy because they will see the other auction with the later end time as a "back up" chance to get it for cheaper. So he would end with a lower price and all the clamour and silly bidding would occur on the later end auction.
So to stop this he'd go onto the other auction and immediately drop a ludicrous price on their copy with no intention of buying it. That then encourages people to bid on his, and seemingly inflates the value at the same time.
Notice in these two auctions it is the later copy that has the higher price on it, and the bidder who jumped the price up from $50 to $200 in one go is a new ebayer with 0 feedback.
Not saying that this is what is happening here. Just that it is a possibility. |

Two of the same records with vastly different prices. I know I know, bidding wars and fools, but the variation in the price of some records is mind boggling. |
simply some sellers are more popular than others. more people subscribe to your listings the highest price will reach _________________

As for the difference in prices - that other seller may sell his copy for a price that is $1,000,000 higher than mine for all I care. That's what cool about auctions - you are free to offer whatever you want for sale and the buyers offer whatever they're ready to pay, damn straight! |

A quick question:
I've been waiting over a week for a guy to pay me for an item he won. I sent him a message and he wrote back saying he HAD paid, which I then found he actually had done as I checked my paypal account.
BUT my ebay summary hadn't notifed me of payment like it usually does (with the blue dollar/pound sign thing). So I guess he paid me OUTSIDE of ebay somehow unless ebay fucked it up.
Anyway, is this guy going to rip me off when he gets the item? He's from Sweden btw, not Greece or Davao City or wherever, haha. |

If the money shows are being free and clear in your paypal account then it is there. There is a way to make paypal payments without having an account. And I dont mean simply paying as a "guest" either. If he paid outside of ebay he probably did this...

So the guy actually paid you?
Yeah that's a typical rip-off case, you should post his name and adress all over the internet. Swedish are the new greek in the 2012 bootleg business. |

| Yes he paid me, however I thought it a bit weird that it didn't go through ebay that's all. I was thinking he might later try claiming he didn't receve it and get the money back, but I suppose he could do that even if he paid as normal. Well whatever. |

If you are suspicious then just ask him how he made his payment. My guess would be what I provided with the link above. Still though, you can have an ebay account and simply pay as a guest with a bank card. Maybe he doesn't have a bank account and a friend paid for him? In any case, it doesn't seem like anything to worry too much about. |

Simplest solution - just send the package registered. Then you don't have to worry about being scammed. |
