hello, been playing guitar my whole life but have only had junkyard amps. gonna get some real shit as my band is readying to play live.

just wondering if this is a good deal.. for a speaker cab..

100 dollars for

The cab itself if is a VT ( vibration technology) 412 cabinet. Indestructable but heavy. There are 2 working and 2 needing to be reconed Celestion G12H 16 ohm 25 watt speakers (greenbacks) vintage 60s.

seriously i know nothing about brands or anything.

thanks.

I have no idea, but I wouldn't buy anything that's half-broken AND indestructible

haha, you make a valid point.

i think he was just talking about the cab being indestructible, not the speakers. he seemed to be talking up the speakers, "celestion greenbacks", like they were especially good. a google search yields a bunch of gearheads talking about them and they seem to have a positive opinion. ill probably pick it up.

The speakers are nice and a solid built cab is always good to have. However, with two speakers broken (or temporarily not working) the 100$ are not that cheap. If you have the chance go and check the cab with your own amp and guitar to see if at least the remaining two speakers are working properly and if you like the sound of the cab.

I have strange habit not to invest money to my gear. Been playing same guitar for almost 15 years and got it 2nd hand. Have removed unnecessary knobs and jammed floating bridge with piece of wood. It isnt easy guitar to play, but its just the way I like it, dont to take any shortcuts.

Also have old Marshall Mosfet 100w amp with 4x12" cabin (JCM 800 or 900), but still I prefer to play through old ghettoblaster (just plug guitar in mic-connection) It gives nice rusty sound cause I can play it louder than it can handle. If elements break, not a big deal finding a new one.

Almost all of our recordings are done by cheap 4-tracker. "Play" and "Rec" knobs were broken, but one could still use it when having strong fingernails. Also did small gadgets/tricks that I was able to use it with my toes so I could focus playing guitar at same time. But had to let it rest when had problems with power supply. Now we use digital 8-tracker, but I want to get back to old 4-tracker soon.

For me playing and recording is more like a DIY-ideology than spending money to latest eqipments or hiring a studiotime. Its like finding a old junk car which you can build a unique vehicle, it just takes time and imagination.

I think it all comes down to personal preference and testing out a vast array of different gear. You don't want to go out and blow 1000's of dollars on something that doesn't suit your sound and that was based on someone else's gear. I'm sure people in guitar shops hate it when you go in there and test everything but fuck them, Get what you want! The only thing id recommend is forget effect pedals as they thin out your sound and basically are just a glorified EQ (Personal opinion there of course). Go for a good amp/head sound as you cant beat them.

Also, Talk to your band's 2nd guitarist (If you have one) and compare sounds and gear with him as its important not to have 2 different sounds that fight each other in rehearsal/live/recordings.

Reliable gear that i have used in regards to amps are the main big/popular brands such as: Peavey, Hughes & Kettner, Marshall and Bogner. I got rid of my Peavey 5150 about 6 years ago and got a Hughes & Kettner - Warp T and ill probably never look back. So much bottom end in that amp but the eq's on it are very responsive and level out the sound quite easily to make slight note changes within a chord audible and without losing tone and thickness to the sound.

i use a jmp 100 w head from 1977 with a sansamp gt2 as a distortion pedal

basically this pedal is more an amp "simulator" but it happens to sound great .

my axe is a jackson RR japan

The D is for Duesenberg. Probably a custom deal, but looks like a Starplayer III: http://duesenberg.de/en/guitars/hollowbodies/starplayer-iii.html

Guitars:
Epiphone Les Paul Special
Jay Turser 12 string

Bass:
Ibanez SR505

amp/effects:
Roland Cube 30w
EHX Small Clone chorus
EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger
EHX Memory Boy analog delay
Boss BF-2 flanger
Boss SD-1 overdrive
Boss RV-5 digital reverb
Ebow

other shit:
Tascam 414MKII 4track
Roland TR-626 drum machine

need a better OD/distortion really....the boss one sounds pretty crap and most of the amp ones are fairly useable but there isn't enough gain really, not to mention digital modelling is a joke.

GAS for:
hardware sampler
ANALOG SYNTHS of all unrealistically obtainable varieties
SICK rackmount FX units + TAPE ECHO
more oldskool drum machines

one day
